At The Paris Theater, Larger-Than-Life Cinema Classics Can be Seen Through the “Big and Loud” Series

Cinema that’s larger than life — literally — has come to New York’s historic Paris Theater (4 West 58th Street). The programmers of “Big & Loud” — a celebration of the spectacle, wonder, and majesty of film — started their series on September 1st. It ends on September 24th, but there’ still a chance to see a lot of classics in their best format. The program boasts 48 screenings of 29 films presented in 70mm and ATMOS sound at one of New York’s most comfortable theaters.

Films include perennial classics such as the late Peter O’Toole starrer “Lawrence of Arabia,” Michael Mann’s gritty crime thriller “Heat,” the fanciful “Playtime” from France’s Jacques Tati, and the late William Friedkin’s underrated tense drama, “Sorcerer.”

Highlights include a rare 70mm print from the 2012 4k restoration of “Lawrence of Arabia” — running Sept 2, 10, 22

This is the first US screening of “Playtime” in 70mm in over 10 years! Sept 1, 9, 17

As a Tribute to the late William Friedkin, “Sorcerer” screens; the film was nominated for Best Sound, 1978 Academy Awards – Sept 9 & 16

Stanley Kubrick’s chilling, prophetic vision, “2001: A Space Odyssey,” arrives at the Paris on 70mm — Sept 3 & 15

“The Wild Bunch” is classic Sam Peckinpah in a rare 70mm print — Sept 16

First NYC screening of “Baraka” in 70mm in over 10 years. Both screenings will be introduced by legendary photographer Neil Leifer — Sept 2 & 16
