Out&About

Cillian Murphy

By Paddy McCarthy

As I start off myOut&About this week, I would personally like to send my condolences to all the O’Connor family on the passing of their family member Sinéad O’Connor, one of Ireland’s legendary singers who will never be forgotten. It was very sad news when we were all informed that she had died at the young age of 56, may she rest in peace.

Moving on to happier news. I am told that flights to Ireland have had capacity bookings from all over including the USA and Europe, something that must really help the economy right across the board.

I wish I was traveling this week to Ireland to celebrate the Cork Association for the 23rd Biennial Reunion Banquet in Cork City, my home town. The event will be happening on August 12 at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Douglas, Co Cork.

This year the honorees will be Maureen Forrest Mogeely, Founding President of the Hope Foundation and Denis Mulcahy, formerly of Rockchapel, County Cork and a decorated member of the NYPD and also one of the founders of Project Children.

I was at the movies last week to see the documentary movie on Oppenheimer that runs for three hours, yes, three hours! Now for me going to the movies well that is something that I do not do that often let me tell yea. It was worth every minute to watch this movie with popcorn and soda; I know what you’re saying, yes it was only soda as I was on my best behavior as I had heard so much about this movie.

Now, how proud was I, on top of the world to watch the main star Cillian Murphy as the title character Julius Robert Oppenheimer in this biographical thriller film. I could go on all day to tell you he was brilliant and I do have to say that the whole cast were brilliant, with another actor Robert Downey Jr. second best. No, I am not taking anything away from all the other cast, as I said already, they were all brilliant.

The man behind the camara was director Christopher Nolan from London. Back to Cillian Murphy from Douglas, Cork, who was magnetic playing Oppenheimer as the movie soars in a historic box office for a documentary to break all records. Please go and see this movie as it tells the story about what happened, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy.
