Out&About

By Paddy McCarthy

In last week’s issue of my Out&About I thought we were going to have nice weather for Memorial Day weekend; well, we did not as it rained for the three days none stop, it reminded me of being home in Ireland. I am not saying anything negative here as the reason I said that is that it gives us the greenest pastures you have ever seen and I love it.

Getting back to Memorial Day, as you might know it’s not one of the happiest days as it is a time to mourn all the falling heroes who gave their lives for America and to help other countries around the world to keep us all safe like we are today. I personally would like to send all my condolences to all the family members whose loved ones gave their life to make this world a better place for all of us. We like to thank you all and say that they will never be forgotten as every one of them were heroes and we want you to know that we are all very proud of them all. Thank you always from the bottom of our hearts. I know it’s a sad time for a lot of families but just to let you know we are always will be there for you all.

I am now going to give you announcement in my Out&About about a big event that I have always supported in the past so here goes: “Annually, Nassau County Department of Parks and Recreation provides space at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park to different cultural organizations so they can host events to recognize and celebrate their respective cultures.  The Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens has, for decades, been the sponsor of Irish Night. It is attended by 2,000 people who enjoy the Inis Fada Pipe Band, the Donny Golden Dancers, traditional Irish and Irish country music. The event also provides the Center with the opportunity to recognize those who have made a difference to the Irish American Community. On behalf of the President of the Irish American Center I am reaching out to invite you to be one of our 2026 Honorees! It is a wonderful way for us to recognize and give thanks for what you have done for not only the Irish American Center, but for the Irish diaspora in the tristate area and beyond.

“The event takes place on August 3rd at 7 pm and there is very little you have to do, other than pray for good weather, accept a proclamation from the Nassau County Executive and the Irish American Center President. You then sit back and enjoy the evening in the company of many who you know. Warm regards, Maureen O’Neill-Regan, Chair 2026 Irish Night Irish American Society of Nassau Suffolk and Queens.”

Now that is so nice to be recognized like that and again I really do appreciate it very much and to tell you thanks so much as you don’t have to do that because that is what I am here for to help all the Irish communities far and wide. Of course I will be there how could I not miss a great evening like this always.

Now again I have to tell you that I am always so proud to be any part of the The Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens who do brilliant volunteer work for the Irish and Irish American community with open arms. Thank you Maureen for the invite, see you then.

In the meantime, I hope to see you all again next week when I am Out&About as you never know where I will be visiting…
