Welcome to our regular music and entertainment guide, brought to you by Paddy McCarthy for your reading enjoyment
Thousands of mourners from all over the World came to Dublin to pay their respects to the late Brendan Grace who passed away last Thursday after a short illness. From famous faces in the entertainment world, politicians and sportspeople to the general public they came in droves to honor a great men who will be solely missed by all. He was so respected and will never be forgotten. R.I.P.
As we are on the subject of great entertainers in the world of comedy, I have to point out another master of his craft is Conor Moore who also comes from Dublin. He will be appearing on stage for the 4th Annual Summer Gala along with Irish violinist and long-time friend of CMRF, Gregory Harrington, ahead of the launch of his fourth album. More information on this very worthy charitable event can be found on page 20 of this issue of the paper.
We have a lot going on with another fine performance happening at The Irish Repertory Theatre with renowned Irish jazz singer Christine Tobin performing ‘Sailing to Byzantium,’ a collection of original songs written to twelve poems by W.B Yeats. This live performance will feature the songs from Tobin’s acclaimed 2012 album, which won a 2012 British Composer Award. For this ambitious project, Tobin selected a range of her favorite Yeats poems, from his early work through to his final collection, including such beloved works as “When You Are Old” and “The Second Coming.” The broad palette of harmony and color throughout this collection draws on influences from folk, jazz, and twentieth century classical music. This one night only live performance is the perfect program for music and poetry lovers alike. Don’t miss it on Tuesday, August 27th at 7pm with special guests. For more information visit irishrep.org or phone (212) 727-2737.
