MoCCA Fest
April 6 – 7, 2019
Metropolitan West
639 W 46th St.
New York, NY 10036

Held at Metropolitan West (639 W 46th St.), MoCCA Fest grew out of the former Museum of Comic Art into one of the most important events for participants in the world of indie comics, ‘zines, works of international graphic storytelling and animation. Now produced by the Society of Illustrators — which has launched a new Museum of Comic Art — it brings together veteran comic creators, up-and-comers who publish their own work, and ardent fans. This year’s guests of honor include Eisner-winning, Emmy-nominated artist Bill Sienkiewicz (“Elektra: Assassin”), cartoonist Liana Finck (“A Bintel Brief”), Edie Fake (“Gaylord Phoenix,” “Little Stranger”), and cartoonist Keith Knight (“The Knight Life”).

An annual spotlight exhibition is organized every year to celebrate some person or aspect of graphic storytelling. This year the focus is on art and cartoons that deal with humanitarian issues and human rights — “Drawing Across Borders: The Artists of Cartooning for Peace.”  On view from this cartooning collective are such artists as Ares, Cristina Sampaio, Jean Plantu, Michel Kichka, Ann Telnaes, Patrick Chappette, Firoozeh Mozaffari, Emad Hajjaj, Damien Glez, Jeff Danziger, and Elena Ospina are on display.

The festival also includes industry panels, a RisoLab from SVA for those of you that want to dabble in Risograph printing, as well as after-parties, and lost of socializing.
