For 21 years, The All-Star Irish Rock Revue has long been a beloved NYC institution performing to sold out audiences at Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, Lincoln Center, Highline Ballroom, The Rockaways, and this year, at City Winery. This extravaganza will be hosted by Joe Hurley and legendary DJ Meg Griffin of SiriusXM. The NYC based singer-songwriter has saluted his Irish heritage with this musical tribute that celebrates Ireland’s musical gifts to the world. The All-Star Irish Rock Revue features an evening of extraordinary singers taking the stage as dozens of guest stars dive into the Great Irish Songbook performing the timeless classics of such musicians and bands as Thin Lizzy, U2, The Pogues, Van Morrison, The Undertones, Morrissey, John Lydon, Boomtown Rats, Rory Gallagher, Dubliners, and Sinead O’Connor, and many more as well as many Trad beauties  and rebel songs.

The songs of the Irish sung by this wildly diverse contingent come from all cultural backgrounds including the punk of The Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks,” the soul of Morrison’s “Crazy Love,” the rock bliss of Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back in Town,” the dancable “Come On Eileen” and U2’s anthemic “Beautiful Day,” the grit of “Gloria” plus the poetry of “Sally Gardens” and “‘Dirty Old Town”  and many others.

Hurley’s All-Star Irish Rock Revue Band boasts some of NYC’s finest accompanists including drummer Simon Kirke (Bad Company, Free), bassist Sal Maida (Roxy Music) guitarists Mark Bosch (Ian Hunter) & Chris Flynn (Rogue’s March) Kenny Margolis (Cracker) Deni Bonet and sax man Stan Harrison (Bowie, Little Steven & Disciples of soul). And this year, Irishexaminerusa.com’s publisher Paddy McCarthy — a former Irish rocker himself — will guest on stage!

Tribute will be paid to Irish author Alphie McCourt, whom the Irish arts world lost in 2016. The audiobook release of McCourt’s “Soulswimmer” on Hachette Audio (narrated by  Hurley, Malachy McCourt, Lynn McCourt, Ellen McCourt, and Alphie himself) will be celebrated at the concert. With 2019 marking the 10th anniversary of Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt’s passing, The All-Star Revue is honoring the entire McCourt family for their rich literary and musical history.  Malachy himself will lead in song with very special guests.

Guests this year include musician Simon Kirke (Bad Company, Free), Tony Garnier (Bob Dylan bandleader), Tammy Faye Starlight, Tony Shanahan (Patti Smith), Ellen Foley (Clash, Meatloaf), Alt-country’s Laura Cantrell, Mary Lee Kortes, John S. Hall (King Missile), R&R Hall of Fame Inductee Ricky Byrd (Joan Jett & Blackhearts), NYC icons Garland Jeffreys and Ivan Julian (Voidoids), Don Fleming (Sonic Youth), Sherryl Marshall (Denis Leary), Erikka Walsh (Broadway’s “Once: The Musical”) Tricia Scotti (La La Brooks), Tony Zajkowski (Lotion), Soul sensation Carlton Smith, and Ryan McCurdy.

Also on stage will be Irish author McCourt, Irish Consul General Ciaran Madden,   SiriusXM’s Meg Griffin, NY1 TV News Roger Clark,  LES Legends Jesse Bates, Al Landess, Eamonn Bowles, Kia Warren, Mike Fornatale, Derek Dempsey, Pat Robinson, and Paul Hurley. Previous unannounced guests have included Ronnie Spector, Fountains of Wayne, Gogol Bordello, Ireland’s The High Kings, The Rascals, Alice Cooper, Hothouse Flowers, Flogging Molly, Martha Wainwright.

Hurley’s Rogue’s March will perform a mini-set within the concert. The legendary Irish r&r band includes Jim Mastro (Ian Hunter), Tony Garnier (Bob Dylan’s bandleader ) and Kenny Margolis (Cracker). Rogue’s March are featured on SONY MUSIC’s “Essential Irish Drinking Songs” with Hurley’s ballad “Amsterdam Mistress”, alongside classics by the Pogues, Dubliners and the Clancys.

A London-bred, Irish-blooded New Yorker, Hurley leads two bands, Rogue’s March and The Gents. He has sung with The Chieftains, Shane MacGowan, Flogging Molly, Marianne Faithfull, PJ Harvey, Prefab Sprout, Judy Collins, Sam Shepard, Jimmy Webb, among many. He has performed at Lincoln Centre, Central Park, Summerstage, Delacorte Theatre, Public Theatre, Warped Tour, Guinness Fleadhs & toured globally. Hurley is also artistic director of Ourland Fest. The 3-Stage Fest debuted at Lincoln Center, was the subject of  twoPBS specials, and featured the All-Star Irish Rock Revue as its finale.

Since 2006, The Irish Revue has been sponsored by Gibson Guitars, who custom-made a Tri-Colour Guitar for Hurley. It is the only one in the world and is used on the show closer ‘God Save The Queen’ by John Lydon. And this year’s sponsors include the Murphguide, and Hurley’s OurLand Fest.
