It is great to hear that the Tipperary Knights will be playing during the Saint Patrick’s Day weekend; if you like a few jigs and lots of Irish music get your dancing shoes on. If you are in New Rochelle, The Tipperary Knights will be performing on Saturday March 16th and Sunday March 17th at Hurley’s Steakhouse.
You’ve heard here for the past few weeks about The Shadow of a Gunman playing at The Irish Repertory Theatre. Well, we were right about it as it is a huge hit! Here is what the critics are saying: “Irish Rep remains one of the most reliable places to enjoy rowdy, all-in character acting, and it’s here in plenty… At nearly 100 years old, O’Casey’s play still packs heat.” – The New York Times. The Shadow of a Gunman features “an embarrassment of riches from lead to bit player” – Time Out New York, “thrilling…superbly performed…as excellent a production of the play as you’re ever likely to see.” – Theatermania, “bracing and ultimately haunting production” – Elysa Gardner, New York Stage Review, “a winning and, above all, vital production…makes one look forward to seeing the next two shows in its O’Casey Cycle.” – Michael Sommers, New York Stage Review, “vivid, well-paced…a splendid team of actors” – CurtainUp.
We here at The Irish Examiner like to give praise to other publications when they give a real Irish play good coverage as you will see in our next edition as we also gave it a very good critical acclaim so watch out for it.
My advice is to book your tickets now as we are told all the past performances were sold out and they will be performing until May 25th. Tickets are limited for this production so book yours now at irishrep.org or by calling (212) 727-2737.
Are you going to the Hope Foundation USA event on Wednesday February 27th at the American Irish Historical Society (991 Fifth Avenue). I have to tell you that there are a few tickets left and this is going to be an amazing event with dinner included from 6pm to 9pm. For tickets call Mary Reed, Chief Development Officer for The Hope Foundation USA at (516) 467-6030 or email mary@hopefoundationusa.com.
If you are down in the Financial District call into the Killarney Rose Irish Tavern (127 Pearl Street; (212) 422-1486) and have a nice pint of Guinness and say hello to the man himself, John Moran, as he is always available to greet you and you can have a nice lunch or dinner. The Killarney Rose has been on Pearl Street for over 50 years; and it still has that touch of Ireland.
I hope to see you all again next week whem I a, Out&About again.
