I was in New Jersey on last Friday night for a reception for the 2nd Annual Grand Marshal Gala held by the Rutherford Irish American Association. There was had a capacity crowd at the event that was held at the Fiesta in Wood Ridge.
The great Joe Kelly invited me along and let me tell you I could not be happier as it was just fabulous and again, it was good to meet some many great people.
As I said it was held at the Fiesta catering venue that was just splendid. I got to meet a lot of nice guests and one particular was none other than Malachy McAllister who has done tremendous work for the association along with Joe Kelly and they have made an unbelievable mark in Rutherford.
This is only their second annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Rutherford and it will be held on March 3 and all are welcome.
The Grand Marshal of the Rutherford Saint Patrick’s Day parade is none other than Patrick Kelly and the Deputy Grand Marshal is John Sullivan.
I could not be happier that to tell you that the President of The Rutherford Irish-American Association Paddy Bonner is one of a kind and made sure I got the right transportation back to New York; thank you again Paddy and all of the members. I congratulate you all for a great Gala dance and dinner.

The Longford GAA had their annual dinner at Rosie O’Grady’s on Seventh Avenue on last Saturday night and the Guest of Honor was Pat Burke who is well known in the bar and restaurant business.
I was hoping to make it but for reasons beyond my control I could not be there, but from what I am told I missed a great night.
We at The Irish Examiner would like to express our gratitude to Pat and wish him lots of success, as he has been a great supporter of this publication.
On Tuesday I went to Scandinavia House for the New York premiere of Breaking Pointe introduced by Alan Foley, Artistic Director of Cork City Ballet. The event celebrated the company’s 25 years in existence in Ireland. Cosponsored by Origin Theatre’s 1st Irish Festival and Tourism Ireland the event was kicked off by none other than the man himself George Heslin from Limerick would you believe!
This film shows spectacular footage of the dancers in the company and provides direct access to behind the scenes to see up close the rarely seen aspects of a professional dancer the daily life.
Included are excerpts from favorite ballet’s such as ‘Swan Lake’, ‘Giselle’, ‘Le Corsaire’, ‘The Dying Swan’, ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Nutcracker’. Alan is from Cork by the way, and let me tell you I was never at a ballet event in my life and I just can’t believe that this was happening underneath my nose all the time.
I must say it was just fabulous and what a documentary it was so I would like to congratulate everybody that was involved. It will be screened again on Friday January 25 at 3:30 pm at the Ramapo College of New Jersey (Pavilion 1 505, Ramapo Valley Road Mahwah, NJ). Visit their website at www.ramapo.edu/asb for more information.
I was just blown away with this production that I am so excited to tell you this so go and try to see it!
Before I go, I just want to mention a new movie you can watch online. It’s called The Otherworld and tells the story of a Warrior who is seduced into the magical fairy world.
The warrior Lugh travels through Woodland heading to Tara to join the court of King Nuada and the Tuatha De Danann. During Lugh’s travel, he is bewitched by a fairy (Immrama) to a Beltane celebration, when the line between the human and fairy world are vulnerable and Lugh crosses unaware to The Otherworld – the fairy realm.
Lugh and Immrama fall in love. However, they live in different times and worlds…
The Otherworld is an original fairy tale directed by Gisela Pereira and inspired by Celtic mythology and Irish legends, and an intriguing world of enchantment, intuition, and pagan beliefs. A film dedicated to those who love magical tales, a dash of sword fighting, and believe in something deeper, within.
The film has subtitles and captions in 11 languages and available to watch worldwide at vimeo.com/ondemand/theotherworldfilm
See you all next week when I am Out&About again.
