Irish Man Killed in Sunnyside

This is a very sad announcement that we here at The Irish Examiner have to make as it concerns two Irishmen from home in Ireland.The New York Police Department says the death of a man who was punched in the head outside the The Gaslight pub on Queens Boulevard, New York has been classified as a homicide.

Authorities on Friday identified the man as 21-year-old Danny McGee of Queens who is from Drumlish, County Longford, Ireland.

Police say McGee was punched around 3:45 a.m. Thursday in the Sunnyside section of Queens after a dispute that began inside the Gaslight bar and then extended outside.

Authorities say the man who punched him fled the scene and was being sought has now turned himself in. He is identified as 25-year-old Steven O’Brien and is facing serious charges.

McGee was found lying on the ground with head injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Arrangements have been made to bring Danny’s body back to Ireland and his family has come over from Ireland to New York to take him home to be buried in his home town
