I have the sad news to report that we have lost another of our best known bar and restaurant owners over the weekend in Larry King, who also was a popular member of the late United Restaurant and Tavern Owners of New York organization.
Larry had just lost his wife Joanie less than a week beforehand after a short illness. RIP to a great man and woman who were a big part of the Irish community and a great friend. It is so sad the way it happened as it all started after they both were involved in an accident a short while ago.
Talking about Irish bars and restaurants they all need your support and from here at The Irish Examiner we ask you to support them and keep our Irish up, as we do not want to lose them.
First of all you cannot beat an Irish bar or restaurant as a place to meet up with friends no matter where you are for all the gossip, now I should know right?
Here are a few ones I would like to mention and, going forward, every week I will mention as many as I can each week.
To get you started, you have The Playwrights all over New York, Sidetracks right in Sunnyside, Queens, Desmonds Tavern on Park Avenue South, Gossips on Ninth Avenue (you have to visit and say hello to Kieran), Tuttle’s on Second Avenue, which is a very nice place to hang out and has a great a garden for your outdoor comfort all year round, Foxy John’s on 47th Street (between Lexington and Third Avenue), Broad Stone (right between Broad and Stone Streets) and the Killarney Rose, that is a stand out on Pearl Street in the Financial area, has been in business for centuries and still has the old Irish flavor and John Moran will give a real Irish welcome.
Now as I said we would promote more again next week and if you have a favorite please let us know and we will publish it for you. Send them to editor@irishexaminerusa.com.
We have just launched our new website for you liking and we will be updating it every day with all the news from Ireland and also from anywhere that has an Irish theme to it.
As we develop and polish the new site over the next week, we will also have videos, blogs, newsletters and lots more for your reading pleasure.
