By Paddy McCarthy
I was Out&About in Manhattan last week and I called into McCarthy’s, an authentic Irish pub conveniently located in Times Square on West 46th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. I was there to meet some people for a pint when who walked in, only one of the owners himself Kieran Green, and guess what he gave me? One of the McCarthy’s T-shirts, now that was nice of him, I wonder if it is because of my name McCarthy?
It must have been as it is a beautiful shirt. I will tell you that I have been in quite a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants but this one takes the biscuit as there’s a real Irish feel to this establishment, so pay them a visit, you won’t be disappointed. They also have a very nice lounge upstairs as well with its own bar for private parties and more, so yes, I do recommend going there.
Now here is an event that I know I won’t miss and that you cannot miss as you, yes you, reading this are cordially invited to the Installation Reception honoring, the Aides to the Grand Marshal of the 263rd New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. And yes, you will get to meet Maggie Timoney, 2024’s Grand Marshal. This will all happen at the superb Antun’s catering venue (96-43 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village) on Sunday February 25 at 3 pm. Now I’ve told you so hurry up and get your tickets.
I got this announcement a little bit late and when you read this I hope you can still make the event or make a donation as we are been read near and far, so here we go. HOPE is well known in Ireland and we would like to make it as well known here in the States as well. I hope you all see this in time with this great news again that I will be attending this event.

A great supporter of The Irish Examiner USA, Thomas J. Grech, President & CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce sent me in this news for all my Out&About readers to see the good work that is going on. As you are surely aware, there are dozens of development and construction projects going on in Queens County, New York right now. These projects will improve infrastructure, improve travel and change lives for the better by providing thousands of jobs and boost local spending. Among these are the projects at JFK Airport.
Among these projects is Terminal 6 (www.anewjfk.com/work-with-us/work-with-jmp), a $4.2 BILLION dollar project. The Queens Chamber is honored to partner with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and all the developers by hosting a prime contractor matchmaking event on Wednesday, January 31st at 9:30 am. Details and registration info can be found at queenschamber.glueup.com/event/prime-contractor-matchmaking-event-97895.
I hope to see you all again next week when I am Out&About again.
