The Cork Pipe and Drums Band New York at the National Monument in Cork City on Easter Saturday with the Deputy Lord Mayor

By Paddy McCarthy

This week we have some  pictures of the Cork Pipe and Drums Band New York who are a part of the Cork Association here in New York that traveled over to Cork City, Ireland for the Easter Rising Commemoration this month and got an unbelievable welcome with a Céad Míle Fáilte, now that was something that they will never forget. They didn’t waste time when they were over there as the lads also marched down Plunkett Street in Killarney, County Kerry and again with a great welcome from the Kingdom .They played in two pubs and closed the one at midnight with the entire bar singing ‘A Nation Once Again’. They proudly played ‘The Boys of Cork’ throughout Kerry!

I was asked by Nicholas Michael to give a big shout out for this event at Irish Consulate (345 Park Avenue) coming up on April 26, so it’s well worth reading about as you will see. The Irish American Partnership is relaunching their young professionals Young Partners chapter in New York with a reception at the Consulate on the evening of 26th April, starting at 5.30 pm. I’m very keen to get the word out. It’s a free event, aimed at Irish and Irish Americans in their 20s and 30s in New York, who might be interested in getting involved and supporting the work of the Irish American Partnership, raising funds for schools and youth education programs in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It’s a free event, although registration is required online at www.irishap.org/events/youngpartners-2023-newyork.

The Irish American Partnership is also actively recruiting for a detail-oriented and creative individual to fill the position of Communications Associate in Boston. This is a 12-month graduate level J1 – visa role, with direct impact on the organization’s brand and reputation among donors, corporate patrons, media, and other constituents, serving as a trusted member of the Partnership Team. This will be a fulfilling and worthwhile opportunity for the right candidate. Works closely with the Vice President, Communications and External Relations, and other colleagues to enhance and sustain the IAP’s communications efforts to elevate their mission and impact. The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of social media platforms, excellent writing and software design skills, a solid understanding of branding, a good eye for merging written and visual communication, and the ability to create and produce new content. They will execute branded social media strategies, generate marketing content for print and digital, manage website experience, and support event marketing needs including branded collateral and overall event experience.

The Irish American Partnership was founded in Ireland to organize Irish American support on behalf of job creation, education, and economic development in Ireland. Today, both General Kelley and Mr. Murray serve as Board Chairmen Emeriti. In the past three decades, Irish American supporters of the Partnership throughout the United States, have raised more than $56 million to support the island of Ireland. More than 650 primary schools, higher educational institutions, and community organizations have received assistance. The Partnership has etched a place of honor for itself in the hearts and minds of its Irish constituency. The Irish government, the Northern Ireland Assembly and British government have endorsed the Partnership in Ireland. Education, business, and political leaders throughout Ireland have applauded the Partnership for the non-partisan support it has provided to both the North and South of Ireland.

I can tell all you young 20- and 30-year-olds should get involved as it is a great organization to be involved with, take it from me.
