It was one of the worst weekends in history for Memorial Day weekend weather-wise. We did not see the sun until late on Monday and that was no good to all the people who booked the weekend away for the first summer break.
Heaven started crying from Friday all the way to Monday afternoon nonstop. Yes! It was Memorial Day weekend that is classed as the start of summer, and it is also the weekend when we honor all the men and woman who have given their lives for peace in this world.
I myself was a little bit cocooned in a hotel in Garden City waiting to move into to a new apartment that I hope will be ready this weekend. Now why am I telling you this? Well, because I must tell somebody… it was not my plan for the weekend and I did not get a chance to be Out&About, now how about that?
I am venting as I also was looking forward to the long weekend and boy was it long because the hotel did not have a bar or restaurant in it to relax, now you know what I mean by that.
Now for the good news the weather seems to be on the way to a perfect start of summer so we can all get out and play, I feel like a weatherman is my next calling, just kidding.
There’s more good news for those of us who would like a trip back home to Ireland sometime soon. Well that looks like it might happen as the Irish Government is moving very smartly and opening up the country, first to Europe and next the United States of America.
I have a large family over in Cork that I now have not seen for almost two years and I don’t want to lose my Irish accent or they will be talking about me. We all miss those green fields as we’re flying into Ireland, now that is what I am talking about and if it’s rain or sunshine we love it right? We all miss the craic and the music, visiting family and friends and of course the gossip on who’s doing what and who’s not and then a visit to the pub hee, hee.
This was only meant for those who will be visiting home to see family but for all the tourists Ireland is the only place to be. You want scenery? Well where else would yea get it but only in the greatest country in the world, Ireland, and you will not be disappointed as you will love the country and all that it offers. I probably should get into the tourism business… just kidding but I am so passionate about my country Ireland and again miss my trips home.
The Irish Business Organization has a full slate of events this month starting with the IBO June Evening Event on Wednesday, June 9th at 6:30 pm. This month they are featuring Irish Repertory Theatre founders Charlotte Moore and Ciarán O’Reilly.
Meet the legendary founders of the Irish Repertory Theatre—which the Wall Street Journal called “New York’s finest Off-Broadway theatre.” Created to provide a context for understanding the contemporary Irish American experience through evocative works of theater, music, and dance, the Irish Rep stages the works of Irish and Irish American classic and contemporary playwrights, encouraging the development of new works focused on the Irish and Irish American experience, and producing the works of other cultures interpreted through the lens of an Irish sensibility. You’ll find out how the Irish Rep confronted the pandemic so successfully and what’s next for “The Rep” as the city reopens.
On Thursday, June 17th at Noon Eastern, the IBO Women’s Networking Lunch will feature Patti Golden of Evelyn Hill Inc., Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Events who will explore the tri-state’s post-Covid recovery plans and the impact and opportunities for our community.

We here at The Irish Examiner have so much respect for Ciarán and Charlotte for what they do for Irish culture and theatre here in New York. This goes far beyond the mere words of praise that they deserve. I am also happy that the Irish Business Organization sees that. They are another great Irish organization that respect for all that they do. They too deserve a lot of praise for their work.
Okay, I am moving house as you can see in this pandemic and no I do not need Go Fund Me, ah, just kidding. All I am saying it’s a lot of work and hopefully this will be the last time. Once I settle in which should be next week I will see you all again when I’m Out&About, so be safe and well…
