Can you believe this? It has now been over 160 days since I was Out&About, now isn’t that something? Now I am not looking for sympathy as Andy Cooney’s new single that he has done with his son Ryan called “We’re all in the Together” that is something with a lot of good meaning to it, well done boys.
Andy is featured on our music page this week as well and I am told if you are thinking of taking a short trip for a few days go and see Andy and his band on August 7, 8, 9 or 10 playing at Gavin’s Irish Country Inn (118 Golden Hill Rd, Cornwallville, NY 12418 Phone: (518) 634-2582) as it is a unique experience as they have an all-inclusive Irish Inn with accommodations, meals, activities and entertainment all included in their nightly rates (with the occasion room only rates as well). I like to call it the Catskills as it was always called the Irish Rivera resort and still is that.
I am also told a New/Old Irish Bar and Restaurant Furlongs, that has been newly renovated will be opening very soon again. Just think of it as being like turning the clock back with a lot of enjoyment coming with it. I am so sure you will know the name very well the historic name Furlongs was one of the first to show all the GAA games from Ireland live. It was so well known that Irish and Irish Americans traveled from all over.
The Catskills has something for everybody and relaxation where else would you go for a little bit of Ireland? You don’t need to fly and its very easy to get there that you won’t want to leave, so I hope to see you there before the summer is over so long as the coronavirus is all over as it is a tough one, so keep your fingers crossed that we will be back to normal very soon.
Here’s some news from the Irish Business Organization of New York. The have lots of upcoming events with two more IBO events scheduled this summer… and one other great event tonight! The big one is the IBO Virtual Evening “Happy Hour” on Wednesday July 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm EDT on ZOOM. Join them as they swing into summer for a relaxed hour with IBO members and friends for some casual networking, entertainment, inspiration, and a few surprises. Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States Dan Mulhalland and NY1’s Roger Clark are planning to join them and their own Niall O’Leary will be adding music to the mix! I have to hand it to that man, he is everywhere, how does he do it?
The IBO Virtual July Breakfast will be held on Tuesday July 21, from 8 to 9 am EDT on ZOOM. Start your day off the right way with an online virtual networking breakfast, the last scheduled IBO event of the summer. You supply the coffee or tea, they’ll provide the contacts and connections, along with the insights of a guest speaker, none other than Roisin Fitzpatrick “Artist of the Light”.
Now how could you miss it with this wonderful artist, so make sure you tune in. Hear the story of her near-death experience, rebirth as an artist, writer and speaker, and her recent collaborations with Moya Brennan.
The Irish Repertory Theatre’s digital performance news is that their upcoming screening will feature their 1998 production of Frank McCourt’s ‘The Irish…and How They Got That Way’ with appearances from special guests! This world premiere production was directed by Charlotte Moore with music direction and arrangement by Rusty Magee and starring Terry Donnelly, Bob Green, Marian Tomas Griffin, Rusty Magee, Ciarán O’Reilly, and Ciarán Sheehan! The screening will begin at 7pm EDT, and the video will remain available on the Irish Rep YouTube channel until Sunday, July 1.
Now here is a bit of good news from The Metropole Hotel Cork City, Ireland. I have to let you all know about this man as I do frequent the hotel on my travels back home to Cork. The Metropole Hotel’s John Coleman has been awarded the prestigious title of Concierge of the Year for Munster and Ireland at the Irish Hotel Awards 2020.
John Coleman is well known in Cork as the Head Concierge at the hotel where he adds a personal touch and helps guests plan their visit to the city. Yes I will tell you that if you ever visit Cork City on your way may be to kiss the Blarney Stone or for a vacation or to stay at the hotel which I highly recommend John will be there to give you a Cead mile Failte.
That what I have for you this week and I will see you all again WHEN I am Out&About…
