Out & About

I take back what I said last week about the weather; I did not anticipate the show that we had, so no more weather forecasts from me in the future.
On a brighter note we are giving away four sets of tickets for the Celtic Nights concerts from Ireland that are happening at the Sheen Center on Bleeker Street. We are giving away two tickets for each night from April 4th to 7th. All you have to do is go to our website (www.irishexaminerusa.com) and enter your email address and the first ones out get the tickets. From what I am told this show should not be missed and even if you do not win you can still buy tickets by calling the box office at (212) 925-2812. See Brad’s feature on this week’s ePaper for more details on the show.
Talking about theatre, Origin Theatre’s Annual Gala event will be held on Monday, May 14th hosted by Mutual of America (on the 25th floor of 320 Park Avenue). Festive attire is requested, cocktails start at 6.30 pm cocktails with a buffet dinner at 7 pm; now that sounds yum.
Origin’s annual pan-European party features a special Origin showcase, live entertainment and an auction to benefit Origin’s nonprofit theatre program.
Special awards will be given out on the evening to Ed and Brigid Kenney (Community Leaders award) and Phil Burke will receive the Artistic leader award – now that is well deserved. Congratulations from all of us here at The Irish Examiner.
I almost forgot Tickets start at $250 with Sponsorship starting at $2500. For tickets call (212) 253-8300 or email info@origintheatre.org.
The IBO April 2018 Evening Meeting  will feature guest speaker Emma Giles, Brand Director, Beer at Diageo (the parent company of Guinness). The April event will be held on Wednesday, April 11 with networking starting at 6:30 pm and the meeting starting at 7:15 pm.
The IBO’s April 2018 Business Breakfast will present guest speaker Paul Pelan, Director of Intern Placements at the Irish International Immigrant Center. This event, held at the Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel (687 Lexington Avenue, between East 56th and 57th Streets) will be held between 7.30 am and 9 am on Tuesday, April 17.
For more information on both these events you can call (212) 750-8118 or email, info@IBONewYork.org.

Tickets are available now for The Seafarer with Matthew Broderick after a 24-hour pre-sale for Irish Rep members.
After losing yet another job, Sharky has returned home to Dublin to build a new, sober existence with his cantankerous elder brother, Richard, recently blinded in a drunken accident. But it’s Christmas Eve, and the drinks are flowing as old friends convene for an annual game of poker.
This year, an immortal stranger from Sharky’s past arrives, raising the stakes to eternal consequence.
Written by Irish Playwright Conor McPherson (The Weir, Shining City), The Seafarer premiered at London’s Royal National Theatre in 2006 and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Play.
It premiered on Broadway in December of 2007, where it was nominated for four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Play.
Two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick will perform as Mr. Lockhart.
The performance schedule is Wednesday: 3pm & 8pm, Thursday: 7pm, Friday: 8pm, Saturday: 3pm & 8pm, Sunday: 3pm. Tickets range from $50-$70 for non-members and $40-$56 for members.

See you all next week when I am Out&About again.
