Gavin’s Irish Country Inn (118 Golden Hill Road in East Durham) is found in the heart of the Irish Catskills, New York. The community atmosphere, live Irish music and hearty meals give plenty of reasons to celebrate Gavin’s Irish Country Inn Bed and Breakfast. Open since 1961, the two-story Inn features 60 rooms with free Wi-Fi, microwaves and mini-fridges. At least two meals a day are provided, and don’t forget to taste their famed Irish bread. Relish a pint and live entertainment in the on-site pub as well as theme nights and bonfires, karaoke, barbecues and rock climbing. Sports courts, gift shops and business facilities are available. Guests can also sip drinks by the seasonal heated pool and kick up their heels with a variety of activities on-site, from the St. Patrick’s Day celebration to the Guinness Festival in October.
Nestled in the Irish Catskills, the inn is in East Durham, three miles east of Cornwall Ville. A five-minute drive leads to family fun at the Zoom Flume Water Park, while a 13-mile jaunt lands at the slopes of the Wyndham Mountain Resort. The hotel is also within one hour from Albany and 40 miles of Albany International Airport. At Gavin’s Irish Country Inn Bed and Breakfast, guests find a welcoming spot with free Wi-Fi, bonfires, barbecues and a heated pool.
Now where would you get it only at East Durham in the Irish Catskills. That is like home from home so go there and enjoy yourself with family or friends or just yourself. Gavin’s also will have the best of entertainment and I am told the great Andy Cooney with is superb band will be performing there. Now as you’re visiting Gavin’s you can also visit The Shamrock House, and just down the road is Five Furlongs Tavern, all in East Durham. I will definitely be visiting there in a week or two, hope to meet you there.

Here is an event that you will be happy to support and that is the Martin McGuinness Chieftain’s Walk NYC. Join them for the 6th Annual Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation Chieftain’s Walk on Sunday, September 13, in New York City. Registration is open now, and they encourage everyone planning to walk with them to sign up. This year’s walk will begin at Pier 25, at West Street and N. Moore Street, with registration starting at 9 am and the walk beginning at 10 am. They’ll walk along the Hudson River waterfront from Pier 25 to Pier 45 and back. They are also honored that Martin’s daughter, Gráinne Hargan, will be traveling from Ireland to join them this year. And if you want one of the Official 2026 Union Made “Unite Ireland” T-shirts, please don’t wait. You must register and order your shirt by Sunday, August 30, so they have enough time to have the shirts printed and ready for the walk. The shirts are $20 and available as an add-on during registration. Please register today, invite your family and friends, and join them as they walk together for peace, reconciliation, and a united Ireland.
I hope you enjoyed my Out&About this week and I hope to see you all again next week when I am Out&About again…
