Out&About

I had a very good time Out&About last week as I was in Manhattan on Thursday for a meeting for a few hours and things looked normal to me I might tell yea. It was a staff meeting where we were planning the next issue of The Irish Examiner USA as this is it now, so I hope you will enjoy it.

On Saturday I traveled up to Connecticut for a wedding of friends of my daughter Christina and we stayed at a Holiday Inn that I can tell was absolutely perfect though we stayed only one night. Now, they did not have a bar but that was okay because the wedding reception was held at the house of the wedding hosts with a big tent that had tables and chairs all set up beautifully with flowers and fabulous lighting installed all over the surroundings as it was pitched in their big back garden. Now for the best part, the wedding hosts provided the best of mouth-watering food with all the trimmings served along with plenty of beers and cocktails I might tell yea. The DJ was brilliant and played all brands of music that suited all the guests’ tastes as I was one of them and I just loved it. The wedding was held for Alycia and Katie who live right there in Meridian, Connecticut and I am going to say again it was well worth traveling up to their wedding as it was fabulous and I have to congratulate both of you as I know you will be reading this column and lots more will I can tell yea as well.

I got this notice that I have to let you all know about on a big event that is happening for Project Children, founded by Cork’s own Denis Mulcahy on Sunday October 20th at Rockland GAA. “Support their move to Ireland at this family friendly extravaganza! It all starts at 10 am with a 5k fun run, and goes all day until 6 pm.” There’s too much fun stuff to list here so see the announcement with full lists of performers and kids activities turn to page 17 where you can find all the information. It will have lots of fun for kids including bouncy castles, face painting and more along with a BBQ picnic and tons of music and dance by numerous acts! This event is spearheaded by Catherine Flood and Linda Croston of the Croston Flood Recruiting, Consulting and Events Agency.

Throughout the 40 years of Project Children’s summer program, over 23,000 young Catholic and Protestant children traveled to the US for a summer holiday respite from the everyday violence and strife of their homeland. The program continues for the young adults in the intern program. The intern program is both cross community and cross border and gives them the opportunity to work together, beginning each summer with a week working together at Habitat for Humanity in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The death has occurred of a well-known man John O’Mahoney of Skibbereen, Cork Ireland, and a resident of Bayside, Queens New York. A member of the Cork Association for many years who was honored as a 50-year member last year, passed away after a short illness. May he Rest in Peace.
