Cork-Based Fiona Kennedy is One of Ireland’s Top Vocalists

Fiona Kennedy is an Irish female wedding singer based in Cork and is one of Ireland’s top vocal- ists, playing for church and civil wedding ceremonies in Munster and through- out Ireland. Now here is a singer that I know quite well and who lived here in New York for awhile back in the 80s before going back to Cork.

A singer and guitarist, Fiona Kennedy has vast experience and a huge reper- toire of popular, traditional and sacred songs for church and civil wedding cer- emonies. She is also a singer songwriter and has many recordings including the IRMA Award nominated album “Crazy Love” and her last album “The Beach” produced by Bill Shanley. Venues include The National Concert Hall Dublin and Cork Opera House and she has had her own TV show on RTE television. She has played in the US, Kazakhstan, New Zealand and performs with her band and solo.

Here is some information on Fiona who has so much talent she should be getting a lot more recognition and she will, so here we go: Kennedy first found nationwide success by winning Ireland’s first televised X-Factor Show called “Screen Test”. From then on Fiona became a highly recognized artist on Irish television, performing regularly on TV and Radio shows including “The Late Late Show”.

In 2017 Kennedy ran a very successful crowd-funding campaign to record her next full album, ‘The Beach’. This was recorded in Dublin with producer and guitarist Bill Shanley (Ray Davies/Gilbert O’Sullivan). Fiona gathered a new band around her and successful performances in venues like De Barras Clonakilty and The Lee Delta Blues Club helped re-build Fiona’s fan-base.

In 2018 she was honored to be the winner of the Network Cork Business Woman of the Year Awards in the Arts category. Judges announced that Fiona’s resilience and passion for her music had seen her continue as a full- time independent musician through two recessions in a notoriously difficult industry.

Throughout the 2020 lockdown, Fiona did a weekly livestream show, as part of “The Quarantine Sessions Cork”, and raised over 4000 Euro for Penny Dinners along with the other musicians involved. She also played for the “De Barras Livestream” shows and did a special online performance for the clients of “The Lantern Project Cork”.

2020 then saw Fiona release a single, “$20 Dollar Bill” (for George Floyd), a cover of a protest song which harkens back to her folk roots. Her latest release is one of her own songs, “All of the Days” which was written about the lonely hours of lockdown during these times of Covid-19.
She has all the goods to go right to the top and she will.
