The New York City Knights of St. Patrick, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish culture, presented a $2,500 check to the Irish Arts Center, a New York-based cultural institution dedicated to preserving Irish traditions and stories.

The donation was made in memory of Eugene ‘Gene’ McCarthy, Chairman of the Knights of St. Patrick at the time of his passing and a member of the board of the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A Bronx native, Gene died on June 2, 2019.

John Tully, Chairman of the Knights of Saint Patrick, said, “2020 has had a devastating impact on countless non-profit and cultural organizations. We believe, it could not be timelier for our organization to stand up and support this valuable cause.”

Since its founding in 1988, the Knights have donated some $1.75 million to the great New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade and organizations including the Irish Arts Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The annual march up Fifth Avenue is a cultural tradition and an important part of the fabric of what makes New York City, dating to 1762, fourteen years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The Knights of St. Patrick is a member-funded 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission is to financially support the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and to promote the awareness and study of Irish culture.
