I hope you are ready for October Fest as this looks like a great month to celebrate. The reason I am letting you know all this as our advertisers Guinness<\/strong> and Budweiser<\/strong>, who support the paper and web site are doing lots of promotions all over the city and beyond, so give them your support as well.<\/p>\n

I myself will be Out&About and I will be visiting a few establishments so I hope you will see me in one of them.<\/p>\n

Here is piece that is close to my heart because it concerns a good friend of mine for many years and he needs a little bit of help if you can. The friends and family of Eugene Flanagan<\/strong> invite you a benefit that they are organizing in his honor.\u00a0 For many years while living in New York, Eugene was an active member of the Irish Business Organization<\/strong>, the Irish Arts Center<\/strong>, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians<\/strong>. After getting married, Eugene and his wife Kim relocated to Boston where they are raising their son Owen.<\/p>\n

Eugene Flanagan with his wife Kim and son Owen<\/figcaption><\/figure>Despite the distance Eugene continues to be a friend to many in the Irish community in New York.\u00a0Sadly, about two years ago Eugene was diagnosed with a progressive neurological disorder that is eroding his abilities on a daily basis.\u00a0 This disease has left Eugene unable to work and has put a strain on him and his family.<\/p>\n

In recognition of Eugene’s\u00a0accomplishments and dedication to the Irish community over the years, the IBO has announced that it will present Eugene with the 2019 Celtic Spirit Award<\/strong> on Thursday, October 3 at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s<\/strong> (201 West 52nd Street on the corner of Seventh Avenue).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Please join them in recognizing Eugene for his contributions and help support him and his family in their time of need.

Here is another event that should be supported so please join HOPe President,\u00a0Attracta Lyndon<\/strong>\u00a0and the Board of Directors on\u00a0October 15 at the\u00a0Manhattan Club. Their special guest speaker that day will be Loretta Brennan Glucksman<\/strong>. Funds raised will support HOPe\u2019s projects in Dominican Republic, Peru, Africa, Costa Rica and Honduras. Dinner and dessert will be provided as well as a cash bar. Donations are at your discretion, from $50 to $250 plus\u2026 please be generous.<\/p>\n

Donie Carroll with Sr Louise who is from Templemartin near Bandon. She has been in Thailand for 54 years taking care of the poorest of the poor<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Grand Stand Bar and Restaurant<\/strong> (85-35 Grand Avenue in Elmhurst) will be having a fundraiser on Sunday, October 20 from 4pm to 9pm. This fundraiser will benefiting the Bangkok orphanage run by a Cork nun Sister Louise Horgan<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Featuring some great musicians with Duffy\u2019s Cut<\/strong> direct from Cork, Mick Maloney<\/strong> and friends, Donie Carroll<\/strong> and friends, James Keane<\/strong> and lots more. Donations of $20 are suggested. <\/p>\n

The great Dermot Kelly<\/strong> is now the new President of The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick<\/strong> and made his first official appointment with President of Ireland, Michael Higgins<\/strong>. Now there isn\u2019t he looking very nice and there will be no stopping him now, congratulations Dermot<\/p>\n
