Located in the Lower East Side, The Gallery, Marc Straus, presents its inaugural exhibition of Sinead Breslin’s recent works. Born in Limerick in 1986, Breslin has spent nearly a decade astutely observing\u00a0 life around her and singularly translates her vision into brilliantly painted images. Using people as a jumping off point, Breslin employs figurative elements in her paintings to\u00a0 draw viewers in. Though her works are not necessarily exact portraits, her characters are often distinct and engaging.<\/p>\n
Whether or not she’s capturing a close relative, or near stranger, she freezes just the right quiet moments which allow viewers to find a connection wit![\"\"](\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/unnamed-2-300x300.jpg\")
h her subjects. She contemplates the beauty in each a passing moment and applies it to her paintings. There is a fluid lightness to her touch that belies an emotional depth to pianting which seems airy and whimsical.<\/p>\n
Drawing from memory and photographic images, she translates her subjects and the small pockets of the world they inhabit into vibrant painted scenes.\u2028\u2028 An unrelenting traveler, Breslin’s subjects come from an array of cultures and countries. After traveling between the US, Mexico, Russia, Italy, the UK, and Morocco, Breslin has composed works that feature recurring characters, such as Luda or herself, and brief acquaintances such as Arfus. Taken as a whole, her body of work becomes a kind of Twenty-First Century travelogue, a diary of sorts, charting and documenting Breslin\u2019s life and interactions around the globe.<\/p>\n
Breslin creates work that’s\u00a0 playful and painful. Her openness to new experiences reinforces a curiosity about her subjects and also creates a foundation that propels her determination to document her impressions of the world around her. As a painter early in her career, she manages to engage her sitters and unsheathe them.<\/p>\n
Breslin completed her fine art education at the University of West England (M.A., B.A.) and has been awarded multiple international residencies in Europe, including her most recently completed residency at Palazzo Monti in Milan, Italy. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe and her work is found in numerous private collections around the world. Now, Breslin is represented exclusively by Marc Straus, New York.<\/p>\n
