\"\"Well, I was almost right as I think we\u2019ve got that snow out of here now after Tuesday\u2019s \u201cbig snowstorm\u201d that was not anticipated to be that bad.
\nThe good news is that Saint Patrick\u2019s Day is looking like it\u2019ll be a nice day and, as I said before, we will have some sun. So are you ready for the big day?
\nWell I am, and it promises to be one of the biggest and best New York City Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Parades ever and, yes, I will be there.
\nIt\u2019s a very exciting time to be Irish or Irish American with so much going on and I am going to mention a few of those event right now and of course I will do my best to get to a few of them.
\nThe County Tipperary N. & B. Association of New York, Inc. will hold their 144th Annual Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Banquet on Saturday 14 April at\u00a0The Riverview (1 Warburton Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson)
\nTheir cocktail hour starts at 7 pm with dinner and dancing from 8 pm to midnight.
\nTipp\u2019s Guest of Honor is Margaret Purcell-Roddy from Woodlawn\/Yonkers, NY and Gortnahoe, Co. Tipperary and music will be provided by the Tommy Flynn Band.
\nThe Kildare Association of New York\u2019s Annual Dinner Dance is on the following weekend, Saturday 21 April at Fairways at Dunwoodie (1 Wasylenko Lane, Yonkers)
\nThe\u00a0cocktail hour starts at 7:30 pm with a hot buffet, dessert and dancing from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am.
\nTheir Guest of Honor is Catherine Gallagher Marion Rehill and music will be from the Guss Hayes Band.
\nCounty Waterford S.P.& B. Association of New York and the Waterford Hurling Club of New York will hold their Annual St. Patrick\u2019s Dinner Dance this Sunday at Fairways at Dunwoodie (1 Wasylenko Lane, Yonkers). The cocktail hour begins at 5 pm with dinner and dancing following at 6 pm and running through to 10 pm.
\nWaterford\u2019s Guest of Honor and Paddy Power Clubman of the Year is none other than Richie Hartnett. Music for the evening will be provided by Tara Gold.
\nDon\u2019t miss out also on the Roscommon Solstice Choir performance – they\u2019re an amateur choir, with a BIG heart who\u2019re singing for the community, by the community on Wednesday 14 March at 8pm in the\u00a0Irish American Center of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens (297 Willis Avenue, Mineola). The Emcee for the evening is none other than Eileen Cronin who is well known for her Long Ireland Show on Radio Hofstra University.
\nAdmission is $25 for Adults, $20 for Seniors and children under 12 years old can enter free of charge. This event is brought to you in association with the County Roscommon Society of New York, Inc.
\nThe Irish Repertory have had hit after hit and that shows they know what they are doing and booking great shows.
\nI have to hand it to Charlotte and Ciaran the directors and producers of The Irish Repertory are masters on what they have acheived and I have to congratulate them for all the success that they deserve.
\nThey\u2019ve another show that features three small Irish masterpieces that will play in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre.
\nThe Pot of Broth, by William Butler Yeats\u00a0in collaboration with\u00a0Lady Gregory\u00a0(1903), The Rising of the Moon, by Lady Gregory (1907) and Riders to the Sea, by John Millington Synge (1904). Directed by\u00a0Charlotte Moore the performances have been extended through April 22 due to high demand from their audience and members.
\nA simple policeman looks into his heart and turns himself into a wide-eyed folk hero. A hungry trickster makes a hearty meal of a stone and a song.
\nA poignant tale is told of a solitary man washed up by the sea on the faraway coast of Donegal. This is the stuff of which great drama can be wrought.
\nA one-act play can achieve a kind of greatness. If that one-act play is written by John Millington Synge, Lady Gregory, or William Butler Yeats, surely it has a head start in that direction.
\nWith their romantic views of the past, and their wondrous sets of laws and techniques, these three plays, lovingly presented, full of politics, wild humor, unique displays of language, and finally, deep tragedy, come as close as can be to masterworks.
