The man, in his 40s, was shot in both legs in Ardoyne on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
He has been taken to hospital, where his condition is described as stable.<\/p>\n
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has asked anyone with any knowledge of the incident to call 101.<\/p>\n
Sinn F\u00e9in MLA Gerry Kelly condemned the shooting.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cAs yet no organisation has claimed responsibility. I condemn whoever was involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cA number or residents in Ardoyne and wider North Belfast have been shot dead in the recent past by various small armed groups masquerading as protectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community does not support such actions and it needs to stop. There is no place for guns on our streets.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone with information on this attack should bring it forward to the police.\u201d<\/p>\n
SDLP MLA Nichola Mallon described the incident as a \u201cbrutal attack committed by criminals who need to face justice\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo-one can be allowed to intimidate this community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose responsible have nothing to offer people here. We\u2019re trying to build a better North Belfast and acts like this only make that harder. They have to be faced down.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would appeal to anyone with information to bring it forward to police.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alliance councilor Nuala McAllister said: \u201cThere is no excuse for this sort of action and I condemn it utterly.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo matter the situation, guns are never the answer and shooting people is always wrong.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople taking the law into their own hands and bringing violence to our streets needs to stop immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
