They did it and they did it in style and by that I mean the United States winning the Women\u2019s World Cup<\/strong>. They were just fabulous and yes, they could show the men\u2019s team a trick or two. As far as being paid, yes, they deserve a lot more than they are getting and have showed the world how to play the game of football (soccer). I am sure that you can see as well that there are a lot of Irish names on the team, now that gives me an extra proud feeling. I hope you all came out to celebrate with them as they paraded down the Canyon of Hero\u2019s as they headed to City Hall to meet the Mayor.<\/p>\n

Calling all foodies, film fanatics and festival fans, the Eighth Annual Long Beach International Film Festival<\/strong> is taking place\u00a0from July 31st\u00a0through August 3rd in\u2008Long Beach, New York.<\/p>\n

The Long Beach International Film Festival (LBIFF) will celebrate its eighth anniversary with an action-packed line up of independent and studio films from around the globe. Scheduled to take place from July 31st through August 3rd on Long Island, the Festival will screen an international slate of over 50 films, including feature-length narratives, documentaries, shorts and animated films that will compete for a series Festival Honors and Audience Awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During its four-day run, the Festival will feature an array of daily and nightly special events, including red carpet premieres, gala celebrations, filmmaker receptions, compelling filmmaker Q&As, international spotlights, industry seminars and musical performances.\u00a0\u00a0
\nThe LBIFF premiered in 2012 with just 50 submissions and showcased 12 films with free screenings on the beach.\u00a0 Ever since its inception, the Long Beach International Film Festival has set up an entertainment hub on the shore of Long Beach, reimagining a summer night filled with entertainment.<\/p>\n

In Manhattan\u2019s backyard, LBIFF hosts many film fanatics and culture junkies from around the world to experience film and much more on the oceanfront.\u00a0 The four days consists of\u00a0foodie events, film screenings and panels and a unique opportunity to watch films under the stars.\u00a0 For more information visit\u00a0www.longbeachfilm.com<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"A special Annual \u00a0Dinner will be held at The Water Club<\/strong> in New York on\u00a0Wednesday, July 31st.\u00a0 This is the\u00a04th\u00a0Annual Summer Gala for the Children\u2019s Medical Research Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Gala dinner will be joined this year by one of\u00a0Ireland\u2019s\u00a0most popular\u00a0comedians\u00a0and impressionists,\u00a0Conor Moore<\/strong> and Ireland\u2019s favorite violinist Greg Harrington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Last year they raised\u00a0 about $85,000 on\u00a0the night with the proceeds going to help find cures to help sick kids.\u00a0This year they hope to raise more! It is going to be a great night with a\u00a0summer\u00a0cocktail hour, four course meal, comedy show and live music!\u00a0<\/p>\n

There will be 200-220 people in attendance. Again, it\u2019s being held at The Water Club (East 35th Street, New York). The event begins with a VIP Reception at 6 pm, followed by a Cocktail Reception at 6.30 pm and Dinner starting at 7.30 pm with the award presentations and a Q&A<\/p>\n

The Irish Repertory Theatre<\/strong> is sitting on a Little Gem<\/strong> by\u00a0Elaine Murphy<\/strong> and directed by\u00a0Marc Atkinson Borrull<\/strong> that begins on July 17th and runs through to September 1st.<\/p>\n

Irish Repertory Theatre has announced that the cast of\u00a0Little Gem\u00a0will include four-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe Award winner\u00a0Marsha Mason<\/strong>\u00a0(The Goodbye Girl)\u00a0as Kay,\u00a0Brenda Meaney<\/strong>\u00a0(Party Face) as Lorraine, and\u00a0Lauren O\u2019Leary<\/strong>\u00a0(The Awkward Years) as Amber.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One year can bring extraordinary change; just ask Amber, Lorraine and Kay, three generations of North Dublin women who find themselves suddenly facing the unexpected. Young Amber\u2019s case of indigestion \u2013 or perhaps it\u2019s a brutal hangover? \u2013 grows into something more, while her mother Lorraine discovers salsa dancing after an incident at work leads to therapist-suggested self-care.
\nGrandmother Kay, \u201con the wrong side of sixty, but not dead yet,\u201d struggles to take care of a personal itch while adjusting to life as a caretaker for her beloved Gem. <\/p>\n

As the year moves forward, the women confront their individual challenges with courage and humor, finding strength in one another and discovering the beauty and complexity of family. <\/p>\n
