It\u2019s very sad, but I begin my column to tell about another great friend who passed away last weekend after a long battle with cancer. Longtime detective-turned-news reporter Mike Sheehan<\/strong> \u2014 known for his hand in investigating the \u201cPreppy Killer\u201d and \u201cCentral Park Five\u201d cases \u2014 died on Friday, succumbing to his illness at around 8 pm at New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital<\/strong>. He was 71.<\/p>\n

Mike was a top-class detective in his job with the NYPD<\/strong>. Sheehan was one of the lead detectives who worked the 1989 Central Park jogger case. He also had a hand in\u00a0solving the Robert Chambers \u201cpreppy killer\u201d case\u00a0of August 1986 plus a lot more. <\/p>\n

He left the force after 25 years on the job and joined Fox 5<\/strong> as a reporter. Mike is survived by his\u00a0wife\u00a0Denise<\/strong> and daughter Clair<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

I myself and all the staff at The Irish Examiner would like to send our condolences to the family, R.I.P.<\/p>\n

I would also like to send our deepest sympathies to Dan Dennehy<\/strong> on the passing of his mom Dora <\/strong>R.I.P. <\/p>\n

The Irish Repertory Theatre<\/strong> has a lot going on at the moment and now they\u2019re ready with another big hit from the novel\u00a0Ulysses\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0James Joyce<\/strong>. \u2018YES! Reflections of Molly Bloom\u2019<\/strong> was adapted for the stage by\u00a0Aed\u00edn Moloney<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Colum McCann<\/strong> with music by\u00a0Paddy Moloney<\/strong>\u00a0(of The Chieftains<\/strong>) and directed by\u00a0Kira Simring<\/strong>, this new production features actor Aed\u00edn Moloney<\/strong>. The world premiere presented by the Irish Repertory Theatre, in association with Gabriel Byrne<\/strong> in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre<\/strong> began on June 7th and runs until July7th.<\/p>\n

I can tell that I know this lady very well and boy can she perform! As Gabriel Byrne said: \u201cAed\u00edn\u00a0Moloney is thrilling in her adaptation, along with Colum McCann, of Molly Bloom\u2019s soliloquy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Here is a small summary of the story: Molly Bloom\u2019s husband has just come home and fallen asleep in their Dublin row house. Molly \u2013 a daughter, a mother, a lover and a long suffering wife \u2013 patrols the pathways of her wild and leaping consciousness. She is lustful. Scared. Exuberant. Heartbreakingly lonely. Vivaciously reckless. And profoundly funny.<\/p>\n

Written one hundred years ago, Joyce\u2019s words seem carved not just for today, but tomorrow too. Moloney\u2019s one-woman performance is a tribute to the enduring mysteries of loss and love \u2013 and the affirmation found,\u00a0yes, in between. <\/p>\n

The Tony Awards<\/strong> were a big success for the Irish as the best play on Broadway was The Ferryman<\/strong>. Laura Donnelly<\/figcaption><\/figure>Now where would yea get it and I have to congratulate the director Chris Graham<\/strong> for a job well done and also to all the cast as they were all Tony winners in my book. <\/p>\n

The Irish Business Organization<\/strong> will be having its regular monthly breakfast meeting on Tuesday, June 18th at 7.30 am at the Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel<\/strong> (687 Lexington Avenue). Also the IBO Summer Gathering<\/strong> will be held on Wednesday, June 26th from 7 pm to 11 pm at another famous restaurant, Blooms Tavern<\/strong> (208 East 58th Street). <\/p>\n

I can see that this night will be a hooley with some special guests, food and a four-hour open bar with music and some networking and I can see there will be a lot of that, heh.<\/p>\n
