For more information on the Parade visit www.nycstpatricksparade.org.
This year will be one of the best Saint Patrick’s Day’s Parades that has ever come up Fifth Avenue and yes, I will be part of it and I’m so much looking forward to it as, well, there’ll be no snow – just plenty of sunshine!
Another great woman who has been hitting the headlines is none other than Dolores Walsh who is making a name for herself in this great city of New York. She is a hard worker and gives a lot more than she gets as her heart is in the right place and she is proud of her heritage. Good on yea Dolores.
Dolores is a very proud first generation Irish American, New York City native, and traces her Irish heritage through her mother Bridget (nee McDermott) from Shragh, Moyasta, Kilrush, County Clare, and her late father Vincent from Annakeen, Headford, County Galway.
She is a sister to Patrick, Katherine, Teresa and Geraldine; a loving Aunt to Sean, Meghan, Siobhan, Bridget, Brendan and Connor; and cousin to many on the East Coast and in County Galway! Dolores is an active member of the Irish Business Organization of New York, Inc. (IBO), having served on its Executive Board in 2012 and 2013, on the 40th Anniversary Committee, as Co-Chair for two golf outings, and has chaired their NYC St. Patrick’s Day Committee for the march and celebration for the past five years.
Dolores also volunteers for the New York City Saint Patrick’s Day Parade as Coordinator for the Aides to the Grand Marshal for the past three years. She is involved in other New York area Irish organizations and causes, and very proudly assisted with the Celtic Cruise and Project Children for many years!
Dolores’s career is in the financial services industry, having worked at Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase serving many industries as a senior banker, and she is presently employed by Jaffe & Asher, LLP as Director of Real Estate Closings. She is a graduate of the NYU Stern Executive MBA Program and St. John’s University.
In its 45th Anniversary Year, Dolores will lead the IBO up Fifth Avenue as the 2018 IBO Grand Marshal. Dolores’ connection to the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade started with marching as a little girl with her parents’ counties, and links back to her mother who chose to move to NYC from Washington, D.C. after attending Mass and watching the Parade from the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral during her first year in the U.S., where she then met, fell in love and married Vincent (RIP). I am sure we will see a lot of her in the future, good on yea girl.
Another man we should all be proud of is Ciaran O’Reilly. Yes, the The Irish Repertory Theatre producer and director who is been honored by the Cavan Society. Almost 40 years ago, he immigrated from his home in Virginia, Co. Cavan and landed at JFK. He left the great county of Cavan but Cavan never left him.
Last month he got the call that he was chosen as Cavan Man of the Year in a celebration happening here in New York on April 7th.
I can only say that he is truly honored that the Cavan P & B Association thought of him and that his great friend Gabriel Byrne will introduce him on the night. I understand a generous cocktail hour will be followed by the best of Irish-American cuisine and then… Dancing! If you have the means, Ciaran would so much appreciate if you could show your support for the evening by either attending or taking an ad in their journal.
Oh those Cavan boys never miss a good night out! Ah, I better not miss it and neither should you. Don’t forget the date: Saturday April 7th.
As I said last week, the Patrick’s Day season is only all just starting. This weekend you have the Cork dinner on Saturday, again at Antun’s and I have just been told that some tickets are still available. Call Kathy McCarthy (516) 314-6440 or Mary O’Sullivan (917)319-2980 for reservations.
Talking about parades, here we are with one of Long Island’s biggest and best. Eileen Cronin asked me not to forget to remind you that Sunday sees the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Mineola, which starts at 1 pm. Marchers line up at 12 noon and march down Mineola Boulevard to Jericho Turnpike, then to Willis Avenue and the Irish American Center. The Center’s doors open at 2 pm for a great party with music by Peter McKiernan. There will be plenty of good food and the bar will be open! This year’s Grand Marshal in Mineola, and the new President of the Irish American Center is Jeff Clark. His Aides are Declan Coles, Nancy Doyle, Ciaran Spillane and Michelle Byrne.
Eileen also wants you all to know about the Irish Festival which will be held on Sunday, March 11 from 11 am to 5 pm at the Mack Physical Education Center, on Hofstra University’s North Campus. There will be Irish gifts, food and beverages for saletogether with live music.
Also don’t forget to check out Eileen’s radio show on Saturday’s between 2 and 5 pm, broadcast from Hofstra on WRHU Radio.
That woman never stops… keep it going. See you all next week.
