Would you believe it? I got sunburned on Sunday when I went to the PGA Golf Championship<\/strong> tournament at Bethpage <\/strong>in Long Island and it really was not sunny, wow. How does Donie Carroll<\/strong> do it – he is out golfing every week and we come from the same area in Cork, now how is that? I have to admit I had a great day watching Rory McIlroy<\/strong> and Shane Lowery<\/strong> playing and I was in the company of Sean Coyne<\/strong> and his sons Kevin <\/strong>and Brian <\/strong>from Youghal, County Cork, along with Kevin Dunne<\/strong> who is Sean\u2019s son in law. I have to admit we had a blast and it was great to support the boys from Ireland playing in one of the world\u2019s biggest golfing tournaments here in New York, now where would yea get it?<\/p>\n

The Bronx office of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center<\/strong> has received a $25,000 grant from the Tara Circle Board<\/strong> toward the renovation project planned at the center\u2019s Bronx location. The award was made by Board members of the Tara Circle at the\u00a04275 Katonah Avenue\u00a0location last Monday.\u00a0The grant will allow the center to keep working on the early planning associated with the proposed renovation including the installation of an elevator and the reworking of the existing space on each floor. The space once renovated will include a location for a work force development training, additional office space and multi-use function space.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPlans for the space renovation have been underway for a number of years and this grant is a much needed boost to the private funds we now need to raise to ensure that the project continues\u201d said Brian O\u2019Dwyer<\/strong>, the center\u2019s Chairman Emeritus.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are uniquely grateful to the Tara Circle for their investment in our infrastructure in the Bronx community and are indebted to them for this financial support, allowing us to continue with permanent plans for our long term home in the Bronx serving immigrants with the immigration and social services we are long associated with\u201d stated Siobhan Dennehy<\/strong>, the Center\u2019s Executive Director. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Dan Dennehy, National Director and Immigration Chair of Ancient Order of Hibernians<\/strong>, who attended the presentation stated, \u201cHibernians have supported Tara Circle and the Emerald Isle Immigration Center from their inception because their missions are to serve our community and that of our neighbors. It is great to see Tara Circle support Emerald Isle Immigration Center, as they help the newest to oldest Irish Americans and so many New York immigrants.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Irish Repertory Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0(Charlotte Moore<\/strong>, Artistic Director and\u00a0Ciar\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly<\/strong>, Producing Director)\u00a0has announced two new productions for summer 2019. On the\u00a0Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage<\/strong>\u00a0will be\u00a0Little Gem<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Elaine Murphy<\/strong>\u00a0(Shush) and directed by Marc Atkinson Borrull<\/strong>\u00a0(Outlying Islands). Performances begin on July 17, with an opening night set for July 25, for a limited run through September 1. <\/p>\n

Irish Rep will also present\u00a0Love, No\u00ebl: The Letters and Songs of No\u00ebl Coward<\/strong>, devised by\u00a0Barry Day<\/strong>\u00a0(The World of Raymond Chandler), directed by\u00a0Charlotte Moore<\/strong>\u00a0(The Plough and the Stars), and starring acclaimed cabaret performers\u00a0Steve Ross<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0KT Sullivan<\/strong>.\u00a0Love, No\u00ebl\u00a0begins performances in the\u00a0W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0on July 26, with opening night set for August 1, for a limited run through August 25. Now I have said that it is spectacular what they do because it is one show after another and it\u2019s just wonderful how they do it one hit after another.<\/p>\n

Tickets to\u00a0Little Gem\u00a0range from $45 to $70, with tickets to\u00a0Love, No\u00ebl\u00a0range from $45 to $50. Tickets to both productions are available now for Irish Rep members. Single tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday May 23at 1pm and will be available through Irish Rep\u2019s box office at (212) 727-2737 or online at\u00a0www.irishrep.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Next up on the\u00a0W. Scott McLucas Studio Stage\u00a0is the world premiere of\u00a0Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom<\/strong>.\u00a0Adapted for the stage by\u00a0Aed\u00edn Moloney<\/strong>\u00a0(The Dead, 1904) and\u00a0Colum McCann<\/strong>\u00a0(Let the Great World Spin) from the novel\u00a0Ulysses\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0James Joyce<\/strong>,\u00a0Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom\u00a0will be\u00a0directed by\u00a0Kira Simring<\/strong>\u00a0(Crackskull Row), with music by\u00a0Paddy Moloney<\/strong>\u00a0(The Chieftains<\/strong>), and is presented in association with\u00a0Gabriel Byrne<\/strong>.\u00a0Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom\u00a0begins performances on June 7 with an opening night set for June 13 and will run through July 7.<\/p>\n

Now, I was a guest at Origin Theatre\u2019s Annual Gala<\/strong> reception and awards event that was held at the Mutual of America<\/strong> building last Monday. The event was just fabulous with the host himself George Heslin<\/strong> their Founding Artistic Director. Now how could it not be a great evening? The Gala Honorees were Loretta Brennan Glucksman<\/strong> who was awarded the inaugural Tom Moran Business to Arts Leadership Award<\/strong>. The other Honoree was a fantastic movie and television actor, Joseph Sikora<\/strong> who was announced as Origin\u2019s Artist of the Year<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Talking about shows that are happening at The City Winery<\/strong> (155 Varick Street; (212) 608-0555) you have a show coming up I\u2008would highly recommend. Hudson Taylor<\/strong> is performing on May 20th with tickets at just $22.<\/p>\n

Having won over countless new fans on their recent\u00a0North American\u00a0tour, both with Hozier <\/strong>and at their own headline shows, Irish brothers Harry and Alfie,\u00a0Hudson Taylor\u00a0are excited at their imminent return to the USA for their first shows of 2019. This show should not be missed. <\/p>\n
