{"id":6921,"date":"2019-04-20T08:10:29","date_gmt":"2019-04-20T12:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=6921"},"modified":"2019-04-21T10:12:30","modified_gmt":"2019-04-21T14:12:30","slug":"not-in-our-name-is-message-from-derry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=6921","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Not in Our Name&#8217; is Message from Derry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2.42412015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6923\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2.42412015.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/2.42412015-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Derry has expressed revulsion at the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.<\/p>\n<p>A bunch of flowers left outside the city\u2019s landmark civic building, the 19th century Guildhall, said \u201cnever in my name\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Ireland Secretary Karen Bradley was among the first to sign a book of condolence inside the Guildhall this morning.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote: \u201cA tragic loss, such promise, such energy, so much potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can only imagine what you would have achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pro-dissident republican slogan written on a wall near the site of the killing was altered to read \u201cIRA are done\u201d and branded it a \u201cdefeated army\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>My beautiful Lyra, our time together was too short, and your light was snuffed out too soon<\/p>\n<p>Vigils attended by thousands have been held at the scene of the killing in the Creggan estate and in the city center.<\/p>\n<p>A floral tribute at the scene left by Ms McKee\u2019s partner Sara read: \u201cMy beautiful Lyra, our time together was too short, and your light was snuffed out too soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you forever, your Sara xxx.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local resident John McGonagle signed the book of condolence.<\/p>\n<p>He had been a city center business owner during the decades of conflict when violent deaths were commonplace.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McGonagle said: \u201cI am revolted by the whole thing. It is a retrograde step.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDerry is one of the most wonderful cities in the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does not need it or deserve it and Lyra did not deserve to die, it is as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThere has just been a quiet anger.
