Limerick born, he joined the Dublin folk revival of the &#8217;60s but in 1973,\u00a0 moved to Philadelphia, where he gained early fame as a member of The Emmet Folk Group and The Johnstons. He has since performed and recorded with lots of others, including Eugene O&#8217;Donnell, S\u00e9amus Egan,\u00a0 Marie &amp; Martin Reilly and he worked closely with The Clancy Brothers &amp; Tommy Makem.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">So his<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\"> rousing concert of traditional, old-time, and American folk music explored a shared lineage between Irish, West African, and Appalachian traditions, with performances by the\u00a0Green Fields of America,\u00a0New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters (featuring 2018 NEA National Heritage fellow\u00a0Eddie Bond),\u00a0Jerron \u201cBlind boy\u201d Paxton, and others. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">On\u00a0banjo, octave, mandolin, and vocals, Moloney\u00a0 led the ensemble performing with <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">fiddler Athena Tergis at his side.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">The first section of the evening included a set of snappy compositions played with The Green Fields of America (Brendan Dolan, piano, flute; Liz Hanley,\u00a0fiddle, vocals; Billy McComiskey, accordion) who were joined by dancer Niall O&#8217;Leary and and an equally skilled woman dancer. After a half-dozen rousing\u00a0 jigs and re<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6604 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/paxtonDSC09333-copy-2-300x284.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/paxtonDSC09333-copy-2-300x284.jpg 300w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/paxtonDSC09333-copy-2-768x727.jpg 768w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/paxtonDSC09333-copy-2-1024x969.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">els, <\/span>Jerron \u201cBlind Boy\u201d Paxton\u00a0(banjo, harmonica, and vocals) took the stage and played a charming set of traditional blues tunes and songs of the South.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Next up came Little Nora Brown, on banjo and expressive vocals paired with fiddler Stephanie Coleman who provided a link to a younger generation of performers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">After intermission, the second half of the evening featured The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters &#8212; Caroline Noel Beverley, mandolin,\u00a0vocals; Bonnie Bond, bass,\u00a0vocals; Eddie Bond, fiddle,\u00a0vocals; Josh Ellis, banjo,\u00a0vocals; and band leader\/guitarist Dennis Hall. Playing lots of pure old timey Mountain music and authentic bluegrass, audibly establishing a link to its earlier Celtic traditions.
