{"id":6233,"date":"2019-03-14T08:18:26","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T13:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=6233"},"modified":"2019-03-17T08:20:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-17T13:20:01","slug":"monthly-passenger-numbers-rise-10-at-cork-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=6233","title":{"rendered":"Monthly Passenger Numbers Rise 10% at Cork Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/CorkAirportExterior2018_large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"325\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/CorkAirportExterior2018_large.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/CorkAirportExterior2018_large-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Cork Airport recorded a 10% increase in passenger numbers in February when compared to the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes as Ryanair announced today a new twice-weekly service from Cork to Katowice, Poland, as part of its Winter 2019 schedule.<\/p>\n<p>There are now 52 routes on offer from Cork Airport to the UK, Continental Europe and the east coast of the USA, along with daily long-haul connectivity through major European hub airports.<\/p>\n<p>Cork Airport Managing Director, Niall MacCarthy, said: \u201cCork Airport is proud to report passenger numbers of 151,000 last month, an increase of 14,000 when compared to February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are seeing a keen interest from passengers in continental European destinations, including Aer Lingus\u2019 new year-round service to Lisbon and the daily Air France service to Paris, which has strong onward connections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarch is also indicating strong growth and this St. Patrick\u2019s Weekend we will welcome 40,000 passengers through Cork Airport. In total, 2.6 million will use Cork Airport this year, a projected growth of 8%. This makes us Ireland\u2019s fastest growing airport and the country\u2019s busiest and best-connected airport after Dublin in the south of Ireland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cork Airport has welcomed nine new routes in the past year. Along with the new Katowice, Poland service, commencing October 2019, Ryanair has also announced new services to Naples, Budapest, Malta, Pozna\u0144 and London Luton from Cork Airport in the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>The airline\u2019s passenger numbers at Cork are forecast to rise by 17% in 2019, its largest increase among all Irish airports.
