Paul Mitchell, 27, is accused of attacking the player less than 10 minutes into the Championship clash at Birmingham\u2019s St Andrew\u2019s Stadium on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The midfielder, 23, was allegedly assaulted from behind as he stood in the Birmingham penalty area.<\/p>\n
Stewards intervened and the suspect was led off the pitch.<\/p>\n
West Midlands Police said Mitchell, of Rubery, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday.<\/p>\n
Despite the incident Grealish went on to score the only goal of the game, lifting Villa to a 1-0 victory.<\/p>\n
It shouldn\u2019t happen, the security should have been better<\/p>\n
He later said it was \u201cbest day of his life\u201d, writing on Instagram: \u201cThe cream always rises.\u201d<\/p>\n
Villa manager Dean Smith said Grealish was \u201cokay\u201d after the incident, but was critical of the security arrangements at the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t happen, the security should have been better,\u201d he told Sky Sports Football.<\/p>\n
Players\u2019 body the Professional Footballers\u2019 Association has called for a full inquiry into the incident.<\/p>\n
It was one of two pitch invasions at major football matches on Sunday afternoon, the other taking place during Manchester United\u2019s clash against Arsenal.<\/p>\n
A man was arrested on suspicion of common assault and pitch invasion after a spectator ran onto the pitch at the Emirates Stadium before pushing United and England defender Chris Smalling.<\/p>\n
The Metropolitan Police said a man was taken into custody at a north London police station.<\/p>\n
Arsenal said the culprit \u201cwill be banned from Arsenal matches home and away\u201d.<\/p>\n
