{"id":5838,"date":"2019-02-27T09:40:44","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T14:40:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=5838"},"modified":"2019-02-27T09:40:44","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T14:40:44","slug":"fury-to-fight-another-opponent-before-wilder-rematch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/?p=5838","title":{"rendered":"Fury to Fight Another Opponent Before Wilder Rematch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2.39996297.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5839\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2.39996297.jpg 600w, https:\/\/irishexaminerusa.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2.39996297-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has announced Tyson Fury will take on another opponent before a rematch with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.<\/p>\n<p>The governing body had ordered a rematch following the draw in their first fight in December but Fury will now \u201ctake on another fight\u201d before turning his attention to Wilder.<\/p>\n<p>Sulaiman said on Twitter: \u201c@BronzeBomber (Wilder) vs @Tyson_Fury is officially not happening next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile WBC champion Wilder confirmed his willingness to fight the rematch, Fury will take on another fight with expectations to do the rematch at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week Fury announced a lucrative deal with ESPN that makes it the \u201cexclusive\u201d broadcaster of his fights in the United States and that made negotiations difficult given Wilder has a deal with network Showtime.<\/p>\n<p>However, after the announcement of that deal Fury\u2019s promoter Frank Warren insisted the Wilder-Fury rematch remains likely.<\/p>\n<p>Fury\u2019s fellow Briton Anthony Joshua holds the other recognized belts in the division \u2013 WBA, IBF and WBO \u2013 and he will fight American Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden in June.
