Fine Gael Senator Anthony Lawlor wants the National Transport Authority to copy the layout used on the M1 to Belfast.<\/p>\n
He is hoping to get a park-and-ride facility set up for commuters using the M7.<\/p>\n
Green Party Transport Spokesperson Ciaran Cuffe says something has to be done to ease traffic congestion.<\/p>\n
“I think we need to invest a lot more in public transport, I think giving up a bit of space for buses on our motorways is a good thing,” said Mr Cuffe.<\/p>\n
“I think we should look at providing decent bus services on the M50 and perhaps giving up a lane for that as well as on the approaches, particularly on the national roads.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, residents on the south side of Dublin say the Bus Connects plan will ‘destroy’ local communities.<\/p>\n
The National Transport Authority (NTA) is in the process of rolling out 16 new routes across the city.<\/p>\n
Last night residents from Rathfarham, Rathgar and Terenure along with local councilors attended a meeting hosted by the NTA to discuss the Bus Connects plan.<\/p>\n
The Herald reports that ‘strong opposition’ was expressed against the proposals.<\/p>\n
Some of the key concerns raised by locals was a lack of information made available as well as a ‘short deadline’ for people to make submissions.<\/p>\n
One resident described the process as low spirited and sneaky.<\/p>\n
The NTA said the organization was open to suggestions from the community and the submission deadline of March 29 could be extended.<\/p>\n
