\"\"I was in New Jersey on last Friday night for a reception for the 2nd Annual Grand Marshal Gala<\/strong> held by the Rutherford Irish American Association<\/strong>. There was had a capacity crowd at the event that was held at the Fiesta in Wood Ridge<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The great Joe Kelly<\/strong> invited me along and let me tell you I could not be happier as it was just fabulous and again, it was good to meet some many great people. <\/p>\n

As I said it was held at the Fiesta catering venue that was just splendid. I got to meet a lot of nice guests and one particular was none other than Malachy McAllister<\/strong> who has done tremendous work for the association along with Joe Kelly and they have made an unbelievable mark in Rutherford.<\/p>\n

This is only their second annual Saint Patrick\u2019s Day parade in Rutherford and it will be held on March 3 and all are welcome.<\/p>\n

The Grand Marshal of the Rutherford Saint Patrick\u2019s Day parade is none other than Patrick Kelly<\/strong> and the Deputy Grand Marshal is John Sullivan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I could not be happier that to tell you that the President of The Rutherford Irish-American Association Paddy Bonner<\/strong> is one of a kind and made sure I got the right transportation back to New York; thank you again Paddy and all of the members. I congratulate you all for a great Gala dance and dinner.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Installation of the new President and Officers for the Cork Association<\/strong> and its announcement of its Scholarship Awards were rescheduled due to inclement weather last Sunday, so the Installation will be held next Sunday, January 27th, with Mass for deceased members starting at 3 pm. This will be followed by a reception at the Cork Hall<\/strong> on Greenpoint Avenue in Queens. <\/p>\n

The new President of the Cork Association who will be sworn in will be Gary Power<\/strong>. Call\u00a0Tim Murphy<\/strong>\u00a0to reserve your seats\u00a0on (718) 578-8761. Tickets are\u00a0$40\/pp. <\/p>\n

The Association will be holding its 135th Annual St. Patrick\u2019s Banquet<\/strong> on\u00a0March 2\u00a0at Antun\u2019s <\/strong>in Queens Village, NY. Cocktail hour will begin at 7 pm followed by dinner and dancing at 8.30pm with music by Rumor Has It. This year they are proud to honor three fantastic Corkonians. Dan O\u2019Brien – Cork Man of the Year<\/strong>, Martina O\u2019Dowd – Cork Woman of the Year<\/strong> and Eileen O\u2019Hea – Distinguished Service Award<\/strong>. Tickets are priced at\u00a0$90 per person\u00a0and a souvenir journal will also be published to mark the occasion. The Longford GAA<\/strong> had their annual dinner at Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s<\/strong> on Seventh Avenue on last Saturday night and the Guest of Honor was Pat Burke<\/strong> who is well known in the bar and restaurant business. <\/p>\n

I was hoping to make it but for reasons beyond my control I could not be there, but from what I am told I missed a great night. <\/p>\n

We at The Irish Examiner would like to express our gratitude to Pat and wish him lots of success, as he has been a great supporter of this publication. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday I went to Scandinavia House<\/strong> for the New York premiere of Breaking Pointe<\/strong> introduced by Alan Foley, Artistic Director of Cork City Ballet<\/strong>. The event celebrated the company\u2019s 25 years in existence in Ireland. Cosponsored by Origin Theatre\u2019s 1st Irish Festival<\/strong> and Tourism Ireland<\/strong> the event was kicked off by none other than the man himself George Heslin<\/strong> from Limerick would you believe! <\/p>\n

This film shows spectacular footage of the dancers in the company and provides direct access to behind the scenes to see up close the rarely seen aspects of a professional dancer the daily life. <\/p>\n

Included are excerpts from favorite ballet\u2019s such as \u2018Swan Lake\u2019, \u2018Giselle\u2019, \u2018Le Corsaire\u2019, \u2018The Dying Swan\u2019, \u2018The Sleeping Beauty\u2019 and \u2018The Nutcracker\u2019. Alan is from Cork by the way, and let me tell you I was never at a ballet event in my life and I just can\u2019t believe that this was happening underneath my nose all the time. <\/p>\n

I must say it was just fabulous and what a documentary it was so I would like to congratulate everybody that was involved. It will be screened again on Friday January 25 at 3:30 pm at the Ramapo College of New Jersey<\/strong> (Pavilion 1\u2028505, Ramapo Valley Road Mahwah, NJ). I was just blown away with this production that I am so excited to tell you this so go and try to see it!<\/p>\n
