Pick up the phone and tell them how happy you are to know them; it will do you good. <\/p>\n<p>Yes 2019 is getting off to a great start and we are all excited about it as well as the <strong>11th Annual Origin\u2019s 1st Irish Theatre Festival<\/strong> which is settling in to a new January time slot.<\/p>\n<p>Events and Productions from Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Belfast, Derry and New York can be seen as part of the festival in venues all across the City  from January 9th to the 28th. <\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Origin\u2019s 1st\u00a0Irish Theatre Festival, New York\u2019s\u00a0all-Irish theatre festival and the world\u2019s only festival devoted exclusively to producing the plays of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, will feature a total of 17 events, including six mainstage productions from Belfast, Derry, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Queens and Manhattan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among the productions,\u00a0five are US premieres; one is a world premiere. Fifteen contemporary Irish writers are represented with work in performance.<\/p>\n<p>Origin\u2019s 1st\u00a0Irish 2019 takes place in a number of distinguished venues across New York City, including the <strong>59E59 Theaters<\/strong> (two theaters), <strong>the cell<\/strong>, the <strong>American Irish Historical Society<\/strong>, <strong>Scandinavia House<\/strong>, <strong>The NY Irish Center<\/strong>, <strong>The Playroom<\/strong>, <strong>A.R.T. New York<\/strong>, <strong>The Irish Consulate<\/strong>, the <strong>Irish Arts Center<\/strong>, and <strong>NYU\u2019s Glucksman Ireland House<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Produced by Origin Theatre Company, now in its 16th\u00a0season,\u00a0Origin\u2019s 1st\u00a0Irish is a highly curated festival that mixes brand new and recently acclaimed productions and special projects from both sides of the Atlantic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since its founding in 2007, the Festival has been recognized for its focused size, and emphasis on audience engagement through mainstage productions, parties, panels and workshops.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Its <strong>Next Generation<\/strong> and <strong>Breaking Ground<\/strong> series have proven to be a launch-pad for new projects developed collaboratively by artists from different cities, that have gone on to further success and acclaim.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 The NY Times called Origin\u2019s 1st\u00a0Irish \u201can important event that offers New York theatergoers the chance to see fascinating new work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A competitive festival, this year\u2019s Origin\u2019s 1st\u00a0Irish culminates in a Closing Night Ceremony on Monday January 28, staged at <strong>Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s Manhattan Club<\/strong> (800 Seventh Avenue) in the heart of Times Square.\u00a0\u00a0There the Best of Festival Awards, chosen by the festival\u2019s blue-ribbon panel of judges (whose names will be announced soon), will be handed out.<\/p>\n<p>For Festival details\u00a0and tickets\u00a0visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.origintheatre.org\">www.origintheatre.org<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I just got this in from The <strong>Irish Repertory Theatre<\/strong> here in New York: \u201cWelcome to Irish Repertory Theatre\u2019s <strong>Sean O\u2019Casey Season<\/strong>! From January through May of our 30th Anniversary Season, we are presenting a comprehensive retrospective of the work of renowned Irish playwright Sean O\u2019Casey. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe celebration will feature\u00a0<strong>The O\u2019Casey Cycle<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 O\u2019Casey\u2019s renowned \u201cDublin Trilogy\u201d in repertory:\u00a0<strong>The Shadow of a Gunman<\/strong>\u00a0(1923), <strong>Juno and the Paycock<\/strong>\u00a0(1924),\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>The Plough and the Stars<\/strong>\u00a0(1926)\u00a0\u2013 and\u00a0free readings\u00a0of all of O\u2019Casey\u2019s other plays. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther planned events include symposiums, lectures, film screenings,\u00a0a musical evening,\u00a0and\u00a0two exhibitions\u00a0(details for these events and more will be announced soon). <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSean O\u2019Casey\u2019s\u00a0The Plough and the Stars\u00a0inspired the first collaboration between Irish Rep founders <strong>Charlotte Moore<\/strong> and <strong>Ciar\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly<\/strong>; we are delighted to return to the work that started it all in The O\u2019Casey Season \u2013 Irish Rep\u2019s most ambitious project to date! <\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Casey Season partners include <strong>Shivaun O\u2019Casey<\/strong> (daughter to Sean O\u2019Casey), <strong>Neil Pepe<\/strong> (Artistic Director, Atlantic Theater Company), the <strong>New York Public Library for the Performing Arts<\/strong>, <strong>Dr. Maureen Murphy<\/strong> (HOFSTRA University), <strong>Robert Lowery<\/strong> (Sean O\u2019Casey Review), and more.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The O\u2019Casey Cycle is on sale now! In the meantime, get along to The Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street), call their box office on (212) 727-2737 or visit them online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.irishrep.org\">www.irishrep.org<\/a> for tickets. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now for some sad news. <strong>Longtime LGBT activist Larry Lombardi<\/strong> passed away peacefully on Saturday in his apartment in his own bed.\u00a0 Larry was the longtime treasurer of the Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens.\u00a0 He was an active member of the Queens Center for Gay Seniors in Jackson Heights.\u00a0 Larry was also active in the Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee which runs the borough\u2019s LGBT Pride Parade annually.\u00a0He was 83 years old. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarry was an amazing human being and he will be sorely missed by all who were lucky to know him,\u201d said NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm.\u00a0 \u201cLarry spent at least the last 26 years of his life fighting for the rights of LGBT people in Queens and beyond.\u00a0 He was a progressive fighter who took to the streets to fight for the things he believed in.<br \/>\n\u201cHe was active in LGBT causes until the very end.\u00a0 Daniel said he was fortunate to spend time with Larry on Wednesday in the Queens Center for Gay Seniors.\u00a0 He was on oxygen but was in good spirits.\u00a0 Rest in peace my friend and ally.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A memorial service will be held in January.\u00a0 Details will be forthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>This just came in so I have to let you know about it. <strong>Alan Foley, the Artistic Director of Cork City Ballet<\/strong> is presenting the New York premiere of <strong>\u2018Breaking Pointe\u2019<\/strong> on January 22 at 7pm at Scandinavia House (58 Park Avenue) to celebrate the company\u2019s 25 years in existence in Ireland. <\/p>\n<p>Cosponsored with Origin 1st Irish Festival and <strong>Tourism Ireland<\/strong>, this film shows spectacular footage of the dancers in the company and provides direct access to behind the scenes to see up close the rarely seen aspects of a professional dancer the daily life. <\/p>\n<p>Included are Excerpts from favourite ballet\u2019s such as \u2018Swan Lake,\u2019 \u2018Giselle,\u2019 \u2018Le Corsaire,\u2019 \u2018The Dying Swan,\u2019 \u2018The Sleeping Beauty,\u2019 and \u2018The Nutcracker\u2019 feature in this stunning documentary.
