\"\"I was at the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens (297 Willis Avenue, Mineola; (516) 746-9392) to see Betty McLaughlin receiving the honor as the New Mayo Society President.
\nI have to hand it to this woman who is a marvelous human being and a great worker for both organizations \u2013 she is also President of the Irish American Society. She just never stops doing things and is always available when anybody needs her attention and never says no if someone needs her help with a problem; what a fabulous woman and good on yea Betty.
\nIf there is anybody who was dancing in Ireland to all the Irish Showbands who remembers Pat Lynch and the Aircords, well I have the sad news that Pat Lynch from Cork passed away last weekend. RIP.
\nHe had some very big hits with \u201cWhen we were Young,\u201d \u201cThree good Reasons,\u201d \u201cKinsale,\u201d and many more and I can tell you that you could not have met a nicer person.
\nThe IBO\u2019s February evening meeting will host guest speaker James P. O\u2019Neill, the Police Commissioner of the City of New York. The event will take place at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, February 7 at Scandinavia House (58 Park Avenue South). If you are interested in going then you should RSVP by Tuesday, February 6th. \nDid anyone watch the Grammys last Sunday which was broadcast from Madison Square Garden in New York City. If not then you may have missed the news that U2, yes the U2 from Dublin, Ireland, and will be starting their new World Tour in May which includes some dates in Dublin and Belfast.
\nThe Origin Theatre Company\u2019s 1st Irish Theatre Festival 2018 held their Awards Presentation on Monday evening at the Manhattan Club in Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s and what a collection great talent there was.
\nThe winners are Best Actress Hayley Mills for \u201cParty Face,\u201d Best Actor Mick Mellamphy for \u201cGuy Walks Into a Bar,\u201d Best Director John Keating \u201cDyin for It,\u201d Best Playwright Bernard McMullian \u201cJimmy Titanic,\u201d Best Production \u201cParty Face.\u201d
\nThe Jury Special Prize went to Colin Campbell of \u201cDisco Pigs,\u201d The Bairbre Dowling Spirit of the Festival Award was presented to Jenny Green and the Fringe Award went to Poor Mouth Theatre, The NY Irish Center and the company of \u201cA Guy Walks Into a Bar.\u201d
\nCongratulations to all the directors, actors and volunteers. You should be very proud as you all have done great work.
