1,000 students from across Ireland descended on Shannon Airport last week for the ITLG\u2019s Young Innovators Challenge. During the day long event students were tasked with innovating and developing solutions which will shape the way we live in 2050. Six teams were short-listed to present their solution to RTE\u2019s Dragons Barry O\u2019Sullivan, Eleanor McEvoy, Chanelle McCoy, Gavin Duffy & Alison Cowzer. Students from Gort Community School scooped the top prize of a week long internship in Silicon Valley where they will visit tech giants Google & Intel. Runners up received tech gear courtesy of Logitech<\/figcaption><\/figure>This is a very sad way to start my Out&About, but it has to be done. Danny McGee, of Drumlish, Co. Longford, lost his life over a punch that came from another Irishman named Steven O\u2019Brien outside the Gaslight Pub on Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside in Queens.<\/p>\n

It was so unfortunate for this to happen as I don\u2019t think it was intentional for this to happen the way it did. The sad thing was O\u2019Brien fled after allegedly cold cocking McGee who was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
\nHe turned himself in at the 108th Precinct at 8 am and he was charged several hours later with assault in connection with the death of John \u201cDanny\u201d McGee, a charge that may be upgraded later. <\/p>\n

The County Cork Association has sent its deepest condolences to their Past President Tim Murphy and his family on the sudden and tragic passing of his nephew Danny.<\/p>\n

Danny had immigrated to New York earlier this year and was a resident of Sunnyside. His parents are Don and Colleen McGee. Colleen is Tim\u2019s sister. Danny is also survived by his brother Brian, sister Eva, and extended family and friends.\u00a0
\nThere was a memorial mass on Saturday at St. Sebastian\u2019s (58th\u00a0Street and Roosevelt Avenue, Woodside) at 1pm. His parents have arrived in New York to take Danny home.\u00a0R.I.P. <\/p>\n

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association of New York<\/strong> will hold their Twenty Seventh Annual Dinner Dance<\/strong> on Saturday, December 1st in The Fairways at Dunwoodie<\/strong> (1 Wasylenko Lane in Yonkers), with dancing to DJ Brendan. <\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Guest of Honor will be Frank Brady<\/strong>, a native of Manorhamilton, County Leitrim. This year\u2019s Colette Horkan Memorial awardee will be Emer Quinlan<\/strong> a native of Bruff, Co. Limerick who immigrated to the US in 1985 and made Queens her adopted home. <\/p>\n

On the night, they will also recognize their Sean Faherty Championship winners Na Fianna<\/strong>, Annie Kearney Cup winners Kerry\/Donegal<\/strong>, Peter Connaughton Cup Winners St. Brigid\u2019s<\/strong>, 2018 Feile team, MVP\u2019s of the finals and their Club Players of the Year. <\/p>\n

The 2018 Player of the Year is Stephanie Tierney<\/strong> a native New Yorker who has played football at every level in New York playing with NY Celtics in her early days and then with St. Brigid\u2019s. Stephanie has been a stalwart in the backline for Na Fianna over the past few years. <\/p>\n

The 2018 Young Player of the Year is Orlaith Gormally<\/strong>. She was a member of the 2018 St. Brigid\u2019s and Na Fianna winning teams and has proved a tenacious opponent on the field.<\/p>\n
