RIP to a great man and woman who were a big part of the Irish community and a great friend. It is so sad the way it happened as it all started after they both were involved in an accident a short while ago.<br \/>\nTalking about Irish bars and restaurants they all need your support and from here at The Irish Examiner we ask you to support them and keep our Irish up, as we do not want to lose them.<br \/>\nFirst of all you cannot beat an Irish bar or restaurant as a place to meet up with friends no matter where you are for all the gossip, now I should know right?<br \/>\nHere are a few ones I would like to mention and, going forward, every week I will mention as many as I can each week.<br \/>\nTo get you started, you have The Playwrights all over New York, Sidetracks right in Sunnyside, Queens, Desmonds Tavern on Park Avenue South, Gossips on Ninth Avenue (you have to visit and say hello to Kieran), Tuttle\u2019s on Second Avenue, which is a very nice place to hang out and has a great a garden for your outdoor comfort all year round, Foxy John\u2019s on 47th Street (between Lexington and Third Avenue), Broad Stone (right between Broad and Stone Streets) and the Killarney Rose, that is a stand out on Pearl Street in the Financial area, has been in business for centuries and still has the old Irish flavor and John Moran will give a real Irish welcome.<br \/>\nNow as I said we would promote more again next week and if you have a favorite please let us know and we will publish it for you. Yes, I do mean the Wexford hurling players and legends will be in New York in February from the 7th to the 10th and will be very happy to see you all.<br \/>\nHere are some of the venues you can visit and meet the lads. On Wednesday February 7th they are offering a private audiences with the Wexford Delegation including Davy Fitz and Lee Chin and will present their plans for the future of the Wexford GAA, we will keep you posted on that. Day two is the \u201cbig one\u201d and that is on Thursday 8th February at Jack Doyle\u2019s Pub and Restaurant on 35th Street off Seventh Avenue with lots going on with a panel\u00a0discussion with the Wexford delegation followed by a reception an evening with food and drinks for the evening. The cover charge will be $150 per head so come on down and meet the boys.<br \/>\nOn Friday February 9th they will be holding a hurling clinic at 5pm in Rockland GAA, with the Stars of the Wexford Team followed again by an evening entertainment at 8pm in Rory Dolans in Yonkers.<br \/>\nSaturday February 10th sees them holding a second hurling clinic, this time in Shannon\u2008Gaels at 11am with Davy Fitz, Lee Chin, Adrian Fenlon and Tom Dempsey.<br \/>\nFor more information on the Wexford GAA\u2019s visit call Laura Staunton on (646) 962-2012 or email <a href=\"mailto:lstaunton@johnmurphylaw.com\">lstaunton@johnmurphylaw.com<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe County Cork B. P. &#038; P. Association of NewYork invites you to join them in celebrating the St. Patrick\u2019s season at their 134th Annual St. Patrick\u2019s Ball and Dinner Dance, on Saturday, March 3rd at Antun\u2019s (96-43 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village).<br \/>\nThe deluxe cocktail hour will begin at 7pm followed by dinner, music and dancing to Rumor Has It.<br \/>\nThis year, they are delighted to recognize three very distinguished honorees. Their 2018 Cork Man of the Year \u2013 Eddie O\u2019Brien hails from Cobh, County Cork. Well known for playing hurling and football with Passage West, he won an All Ireland Under 21 Hurling Medal in 1966. He is famously remembered for scoring a \u201chat trick\u201d and a point to help Cork win the All Ireland Senior Hurling medal in 1970.<br \/>\nEddie worked at Rockefeller Center for 35 years as a Security Director. He retired in 2007 and now devotes his time to his community in Richmond Hill.<br \/>\nThe 2018 Cork Woman of the Year \u2013 Mary Cahill grew up in Bartlemy, County Cork. Educated in Cork, the Institut Catholique de Paris, and the Sorbonne, Mary came to New York and obtained a Masters Degree in Economics.<br \/>\nShe joined the United Nations in 1979 and transferred to UNICEF in 1982, serving as Special Assistant to the Executive Director for twelve years.<br \/>\nNow retired, Mary managed the advocacy and fundraising work of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors for ten years.<br \/>\nMichael Doherty is the 2018 recipient of the \u201cFrank T. Carvill Distinguished Service Award.\u201d Mike was born and raised South Armagh, Northern Ireland.<br \/>\nHe emigrated to the United States in 1963 and was drafted into the U S Army where he served as a medic with the 11th Medical Detachment in Hoi An, Vietnam.<br \/>\nHe is a retired Building Manager who resides in Woodside and is an active member of both the County Cork and County Armagh Associations of New York.<br \/>\nThey will publish a souvenir journal dedicated to the distinguished honorees, and invite you to include a greeting, remembrance or advertisement for your family,
