It was great to be at the Knights of Saint Patrick 30th Awards Dinner Dance that was held at the Union League Club. The Honorees were Man of the Year James J. Houlihan, Labor Leader of the Year John Samuelsen and Business Leader of the Year Daniel
T. Donnelly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>No we did not win the $1,600,000 Mega Lotto jackpot but we at The Irish Examiner are excited to announce our two honorees for the Woman and Man of the Year<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

The Woman of the Year is none other than Maggie Cadden<\/strong>, Irish music distributor and concert promoter. The Man of the Year is Seamus McDonagh<\/strong>, boxing champion and screen and stage actor.
\nWe will be having an event in November to honor both candidates that we will announce in the next issue of The Irish Examiner. <\/p>\n

The Emerald Isle Immigration Center<\/strong> will be celebrating its 30 Anniversary advocating for immigrants rights. In this, their 30th year, they need the support of the entire community in order to sustain the critical and increasing demand for their services. They look forward to you joining them at their Fall Fundraiser on the evening of Monday,\u2008October 29th, from 6 to 9pm at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s<\/strong> (201 West 52nd Street on the corner of 7th Avenue) as they reflect on three decades of their work. <\/p>\n

In addition they will be acknowledging the dedicated staff,\u00a0founders and early leaders whilst also showcasing some clients that they have helped along their immigration path. <\/p>\n

The Irish Repertory Theatre<\/strong> has done it again with an all star cast upcoming show The Dead, 1904<\/strong> that is based on the novella \u201cThe Dead\u201d by James Joyce<\/strong>, adapted by Paul Muldoon<\/strong> and Jean Haniff Korelitz<\/strong> and directed by Ciaran O\u2019Reilly<\/strong> which begins on November 17 and runs through to January 12, 2019.<\/p>\n

The \u201cluminous\u201d Melissa Gilbert<\/strong> is returning as Gretta in The Dead, 1904 alongside Rufus Collins<\/strong> as Gabriel! Ms. Gilbert\u2019s acclaimed career as an actor began at a young age, when she was cast as the lead in \u201cThe Little House on the Prairie\u201d and \u201cThe Miracle Worker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other returning cast members from last year\u2019s acclaimed production include the \u201cpitch-perfect\u201d Patricia Kilgariff<\/strong> and Patti Perkins<\/strong> as the Morkan sisters (your hosts for the evening), \u201cstand out\u201d violinist and actress Heather Martin Bixler<\/strong>, the \u201cgolden-voiced\u201d Kimberly Doreen Burns<\/strong>, Peter Cormican<\/strong>, the \u201csuperb\u201d Terry Donnelly<\/strong>, and a \u201cpowerful\u201d Aed\u00edn Moloney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

They are also delighted to welcome new cast members Ciar\u00e1n Byrne<\/strong> as Freddy, Meg Hennessy<\/strong> as Lily, and Robert Mack<\/strong> as Bartell D’Arcy.<\/p>\n

The Chairman was Eugene McCarthy<\/strong> and his wife Shelia and James Lombard was the master of ceremonies on the night. <\/p>\n

It was nice to see the 2019 New York City Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Parade Grand Marshal Brian O\u2019Dwyer<\/strong> who will be leading us all up Fifth Avenue on March 16th. I also got to meet John Dunleavy<\/strong>, John Mahon<\/strong>, Eddie Dowling<\/strong> (I was his guest), Mae O\u2019Driscoll<\/strong>, Hilary Beirne<\/strong>, Garett Doyle<\/strong>, J.P.Delaney<\/strong> and John Tully<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

I could go on as the cream of the crop of Irish and Irish American guests were at the dinner. The music by Martin Melody had the crowd dancing, ah you cant keep the Irish down. <\/p>\n

Another event that deserves your support for all the good work the organization does is HOPe\u2019s Helping Other People Annual Benefit<\/strong> which will be held on Tuesday October 30.<\/p>\n

Celebrate HOPe’s positive impact on people’s lives in the developing world, and get updates on HOPe\u2019s latest global projects with special guest speaker Leo O\u2019Shea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This event will be held at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O\u2019Grady\u2019s<\/strong> (201 West 52nd Street on the corner of 7th Avenue) with a hot buffet dinner, a cash bar and prize raffle.<\/p>\n
