I was so privileged to be invited to the screening of Gerry Adams: A Ballymurphy Man<\/strong> documentary. Thanks to Marty Glennon<\/strong> of Archer Byington, Glennon, LLP<\/strong> and also to the who\u2019s who of the Irish community that had attended. The screening was held on Sunday at the The\u00a0Guthart Cultural Center Theater<\/strong>\u00a0is located on the\u00a0first floor of the\u00a0Annix Library<\/strong> on Hofstra\u2019s South Campus<\/strong>. Here are some of the guests that were invited that Marty Glennon acknowledged on the evening. He told the audience that he needed to acknowledge everyone that made this night a reality. He also the generous sponsors who made the event possible:\u00a0The Irish American Building Society<\/strong> (Marty Cottingham<\/strong> and Gerard McCabe<\/strong>),\u00a0The Nassau County Brehons<\/strong> (President Cathy Stanton<\/strong>),\u00a0The AOH <\/strong>(National President \u2013 Sean Pender<\/strong>),\u00a0The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick<\/strong> (Bobby Gordon<\/strong>),\u00a0Dan\u00a0Deegean<\/strong>,\u00a0Walter\u00a0Kane<\/strong>\u00a0and his family,\u00a0Sean Downes<\/strong> and\u00a0 the NYC Brehons<\/strong> (President Deirdre Feerick<\/strong>),\u00a08.\u00a0The JCIALC<\/strong> (Deirdre Feerick and President John Samuelsen<\/strong>),\u00a0IBEW, Local 3<\/strong> and\u00a0his firm and partners at Archer, Byington, Glennon & Levine.\u00a0He also thanked Hofstra University\u00a0\u2013 especially Dom Lavin<\/strong> (and his daughter Aileen<\/strong>), Neil\u00a0Collins<\/strong>\u00a0and their technician for the evening. Lastly, he gave a big shout out to Billy\u00a0Tranghese<\/strong>\u00a0who jumped right in when he told him that he wanted to do a NE tour for this film. Billy arranged the sponsors and the venues in both DC and Boston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marty also introduced the special guest on the evening, the director of the film,\u00a0Trisha Ziff<\/strong> saying:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cTrisha\u00a0is one of the most important documentary voices of our time\u2014an artist who moves effortlessly between the worlds of photography, memory, and political storytelling. Her films have taken us from Mexico City to Belfast, from the personal to the global, always reminding us that history is not an abstraction\u2014it’s\u00a0lived,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0felt, and it shapes the people we become.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marty finished by telling us that Gerry Adams:\u00a0A Ballymurphy Man,\u00a0does something profound: \u201cIt takes us back to a community shaped by occupation, surveillance, discrimination, and unimaginable loss\u2014and yet it is also shaped by solidarity, humor, and the stubborn hope that peace is possible. Ballymurphy is not just a place on a map; it is a reminder of what happens when a community is pushed to the margins, and what it takes for that same community to rise.\u00a0And as we gather here in New York,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0impossible\u00a0not to feel the timeless bond between the story Trisha Ziff tells and the world\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0living in right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe images that still come from\u00a0the Ukraine\u00a0and Gaza\u2014of families displaced, neighborhoods destroyed, children carrying burdens no child should know\u2014remind us that the cycle of conflict and suffering continues in our own time.
\u201cWhile every conflict has its own history, its own wounds, there are universal truths: the cost borne by civilians, the weight carried by mothers, the danger of dehumanization, and the urgent moral demand for justice and peace.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe film is not only a portrait of Gerry Adams; it is a reflection on how conflict shapes ones\u2019 identity, how communities resist eradication of their language and culture, and how the journey toward peace begins with telling the truth.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
