Labor Day<\/strong> came and went so fast I asked myself where did the time go so fast? As we all know, it\u2019s the unofficial end of summer, but really, it\u2019s not, as summer continues to the end of September. How do I know that? Well, the beaches are all still open and in saying that most of the lifeguards will not be attending their usual lookouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Labor Day most people are back at work after their summer vacations and most of the schools and colleges will be welcoming students back after their summer break. It is both a happy and a little sad time as well because the swimming pools will be closed in most communities where the kids like to swim and play with their friends and of course where all families like to meet and lay out in the sunshine. The good news is you can still enjoy the beaches as they will not be as packed as they were in July and August, so go out and enjoy yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now coming back to Labor Day, The 2023 New\u2008York City Labor Day Parade<\/strong>, which starts at 10 am on\u2008Saturday,\u2008September 9. This year\u2019s New York City Labor Day Parade Grand Marshal\u00a0is Nancy Hagans, RN<\/strong>, President, New York State Nurses Association<\/strong> and the Parade Chair\u00a0is Mark Henry<\/strong>, Vice President, Amalgamated Transit Union<\/strong>. The parade steps off from 44th Street and Fifth Avenue at 10 am, marching North to the Grandstand at 64th Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One final thing before I leave the subject of Labor Day, don\u2019t miss our next issue where we will feature an exclusive interview with TWU International President John Samuelsen<\/strong>. We last caught up with Jon before the Pandemic and we\u2019re sure you\u2019ll be excited to catch up with all the news since then. As an added bonus we\u2019ll be running our bi-annual Irish Tourism supplement<\/strong> next week, so make sure to keep an eye out for the Digital\u2008Edition dropping on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got the following notice from Mike Byrnes<\/strong>, the Feis Event Chairman for another big Irish event that will be happening on Sunday, September 17, starting at 9 am, when the Ancient Order of Hibernians<\/strong> will hold its 51st Annual Feis<\/strong> and Festival. It will be held at Nickerson Beach<\/strong> (880 Lido Blvd, Lido Beach, NY).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike said, \u201cWe are honored to have Timothy Myles<\/strong>, as this year’s honoree. Tim has been involved in this feis for several decades. He is a member of Div. 14 Lynbrook<\/strong>. We would be honored to have you attend this year\u2019s Feis and the ceremony to show your support for Tim Myles. Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 am and the presentations will follow at 12 noon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can\u2019t miss this event as it happens right by the famous Long Beach just down the road and there will be lots of fun for all the family with traditional music, Irish dancing, pipe bands and lots games and more competitions, so be there if you\u2019re Irish or not as you will just love it with some great atmosphere guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I was Out&About last week, I paid a visit to Malone\u2019s Irish Pub and Grill<\/strong> (692 3rd Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets; (646) 858-0110; malonesnyc.com<\/a>). I walked in and the bartender greeted me with a real Irish welcome. His name is Eoin Stack<\/strong>, a good Tipperary man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The owners of Malone\u2019s Irish Pub & Grill are Peter and Sheila O\u2019Connell<\/strong>, who I might tell you are not new in this business as Peter also had the Paris Caf\u00e9<\/strong>, downtown in the Wall Street area for many years and he is also the owner of Molly\u2019s Pub And Restaurant Shebeen<\/strong>, the most authentic Irish Bar which stands at 287 Third Avenue and was first established as a bar in 1895.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is what this customer said after visiting Malone\u2019s beautiful new Irish bar: \u201cSuch a convenient location beside Grand Central. We had some delicious drinks and apps. Tara<\/strong> our bartender was a delight. Such great service! We can’t wait to come back to see her! Definitely a new favorite spot in the city and guess what gave it a *<\/strong> rating.\u201d Now is that nice or what, well done Peter and Sheila.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
