Katie Taylor has suffered her first career defeat against Chantelle Cameron on a 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 majority scorecard decision in front of a sell-out 3Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unbeaten English woman defended her IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO women\u2019s super-lightweight titles. Taylor remains lightweight champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two opening rounds settled into a familiar pattern. Cameron came out on the front foot and claimed center ring. They both found joy with overhand rights in the second, yet Taylor took some points with a flurry on the bell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameron picked off nice shots in the third as the aggressive advance continued. Towards the latter period of that round the instruction came from her corner to go low and work the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor\u2019s spinout hooks and sweet head movement just kept the brawler at bay although by the time she returned to her stool her hair braids had almost completely unraveled. The English woman could rightly claim three of the opening four rounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameron\u2019s beat down with the body shots started to take its toll on Taylor, and the English fighter seemed undeterred from Taylor\u2019s shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An uppercut from Cameron put her in the driving seat of the eighth before Taylor came back with a rally of shots towards the end of the round as both fighters started to dig deep for victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A blockbuster 10th round commenced as the pair traded large hooks, Cameron connecting with yet another uppercut before a desperate Taylor responded with more combinations but after the bell rung, it was Cameron who had her hand raised, with the judges scoring 95-95 draw, and 96-94, 96-94 in her favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameron told DAZN: \u201cI was petrified. I\u2019ve seen results go the other way in the past. It was a close fight and Katie is a great boxer, pound-for-pound the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnbelievable atmosphere. It\u2019s a shame they weren\u2019t backing me but Katie has a great following. I put my belts up against the pound-for-pound best so I\u2019ve clearly got some guts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the result, Taylor already had her eyes set on a rematch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She told BBC Radio 5 Live: \u201cI was expecting a grueling fight and that\u2019s what it was. I obviously came up short. I always love a challenge and I\u2019m looking forward to the rematch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u201cThis isn\u2019t how I wanted the homecoming to go, but I\u2019m grateful that this event could sell out in a couple of minutes.\u201d
Taylor told DAZN after the bout that she has already set her sights on another contest with Cameron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure [if it was a close fight] I\u2019d have to look back it at,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCongratulations to Chantelle and thank you for this opportunity. I\u2019m looking forward to the rematch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t surprised how fast she was. I expected everything that came my way but I just came up short tonight. I look forward to next time facing her. I knew it was a close fight, every round was close but this is boxing.\u201d <\/p>\n
