They are back touring and that is The Coronas who just can\u2019t wait to get back on the road and we all can\u2019t wait either. This band featured on our cover last year and the response we got from it was overwhelming so we had to feature them again as they will be coming your way later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You see I wanted to give you the dates as soon as possible so you can book right away before my introduction to The Coronas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the inside news on their new album: Ireland\u2019s popular band The Coronas, whose trajectory took a curious detour due to sharing a name with the virus that shut down the world in 2020, return with a strong, new album aptly titled\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d.\u00a0Set for release on\u00a0October 7th\u00a0on the band\u2019s imprint SoFarSoGood Records (distributed by Blix Street),\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d\u00a0addresses the pandemic head on via 11 original songs bearing an underlying theme of hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTime Stopped\u201d, the band\u2019s 7th\u00a0album, builds on the momentum gained from their last release, \u201cTrue Love Waits\u201d, which topped the Irish charts the first week of its release in July, 2020, following an innovative, socially-distanced \u201ctour\u201d of Ireland in an album-themed ice cream truck.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This unique approach had the band bring the new album directly to their fans during a pandemic\u2014with a bonus of ice cream\u2014resulting in \u201cTrue Love Waits\u201d holding off new releases from Fontaines D.C. and Taylor Swift to reach No. 1 that week.\u00a0It became the fastest selling Irish album of the year and The Coronas\u2019 most successful album to date internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known for high energy live performances and audience singalongs, The Coronas, comprising lead singer Danny O\u2019Reilly, bass guitarist Graham Knox and drummer Conor Egan, are ecstatic to be able to return to live appearances, kicking off the summer season with sold-out shows at the Marquee in Cork and the grounds of Trinity College in their native Dublin.\u00a0US and Canada shows, twice postponed, are now scheduled for the fall as well as shows in the UK, Europe and Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-piece indie band will once again close out their year with holiday shows at Dublin\u2019s Olympia Theatre, a custom that in 2020 was relegated to a sans-audience streaming event in order to maintain the tradition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s four-night run is expected the culminate with the band\u2019s 60th\u00a0consecutive sell-out shows at the prestigious Dublin venue.\u00a0The Coronas teased\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d\u00a0late last year with the cheery \u201cWrite Our Own Soundtrack\u201d and the creative triple-screen music video made by Coronas\u2019 long-time collaborator John Broe.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To coincide with the Trinity College concert held on July 1, where the massive, capacity crowd endured a summer rainstorm, the band rolled out \u201cDon\u2019t You Say You\u2019re in Love\u201d and trumpeted the new album\u2019s official release date.
\u201cThe song is a snapshot of a faltering relationship – the insecurities and vulnerabilities that come with feeling a companion is drifting,\u201d explains Danny O\u2019Reilly.\u00a0\u201cSonically, we tried to arrange the song differently to how we normally would, with the intro and verses being full and loud while the choruses break down to just piano and vocal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photographer and videographer WOLFF captured the band\u2019s live performance of this new song in one take during the Trinity College show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recorded largely at Eastcote Studios in London, where the band has recorded previously, with producer George Murphy (The Specials, Ellie Goulding, Mumford and Sons) and mixing with Grammy\u00ae-winning mixer Peter Katis, making\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d\u00a0was a very positive experience for the band.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019d worked with George before so it was just really comfortable,\u201d Danny explains.\u00a0\u201cAfter the two years of the pandemic, it felt so good to be back in the studio, locked away from the world, and just being a band again.\u201d
Overall,\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d\u00a0is an album about hopefulness.\u00a0Danny explains that the album\u2019s through line addresses how we all sought to be connected in the time of global panic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen everything is suddenly upside down,\u201d he says, \u201crelationships and our place in the world are given a new perspective. Even though it came together in an uncertain time,\u00a0\u201cTime Stopped\u201d\u00a0is a positive album about togetherness and support.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, it\u2019s a project laden with poignant lyrics as well as classic Coronas stadium-sized melodies ripe for singalongs as Coronas fans are known to do during their live shows, which have begun to resume in earnest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining the trio on the road will be\u00a0well-known All Tvvins guitarist Lar Kaye, who plays on the new album and has also appeared on other Coronas\u2019 recordings.\u00a0\u00a0Playing keyboards in the touring band is Irish recording artist R\u00f3is\u00edn O, whose new album \u201cCourageous\u201d, has been receiving major attention in Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Time Stopped\u2019\u00a0was written to be played live,\u201d says O\u2019Reilly. \u201cWe\u2019re ridiculously excited to be on the road again and to play these new songs to full capacity rooms around the world.\u00a0It\u2019s going to be emotional.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not surprisingly, The Coronas were named #1 Live Act of the Year in Ireland\u2019s\u00a0Hot Press\u00a02022\u00a0Readers\u2019 Poll.\u00a0\u00a0
\u201cWe feel blessed to able to continue to do what we love most, to sing our hearts out together with the people who continue to support us,\u201d Danny says.\u00a0\u201cTo us, our live shows are what it\u2019s really all about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Coronas have previously released six studio albums: \u201cHeroes or Ghosts\u201d (2007), \u201cTony\u2008Was An Ex-Con\u201d (2009), \u201cCloser To\u2008You\u201d (2011), \u201cThe Long Way\u201d (2014), \u201cTrust\u2008The Wire\u201d, which topped the Irish charts its first week of release in 2017, and \u201cTrue Love Waits\u201d, which repeated the feat in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their first three albums were released via the independent Irish label 3\u00fa Records and the fourth one on Island Records, while the \u201cTrust\u2008The Wire\u201d marked their return to the independent route with the launch of their own imprint, SoFarSoGood Records, distributed by Blix Street Records, for ensuing releases.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, they released\u00a0\u201cLive At The Olympia\u201d album,\u00a0a recording that captures the exuberance and excitement of The Coronas live in concert as well as the fervor of their devoted audiences that has made them one of Ireland\u2019s biggest and best-loved bands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
