Christophe Galtier is unveiled as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Paris St Germain have appointed Christophe Galtier as their new coach after announcing the long-expected departure of Mauricio Pochettino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 55-year-old former Portsmouth assistant manager, who guided Ligue 1 rivals Nice to fifth place before leaving last month

Pochettino had a year remaining on his contract but speculation over his future had intensified following his failure to get the club beyond the last 16 of the Champions League last term, having made the semi-finals the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Tottenham and Southampton manager\u2019s departure, after only 18 months in charge, was announced less than two hours before Galtier was presented at a press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked how he would manage a dressing room which contains, among others, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Ramos, the former St Etienne and Lille boss said: \u201cThese are players who want to win, to have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have encountered locker rooms where there was a lot of ego. The first thing is to talk with them but also to impose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe must have a common project without any compromise. I will observe, listen. I know that I will have the support of my management to sanction any player.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A reunion with PSG\u2019s new football advisor Luis Campos, who was Lille\u2019s sporting director at the time when Galtier was there, was an important consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI worked with Luis for three years. He knows what I expect from the team,\u201d the new coach told a press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLuis recruits but a player has never come without my agreement. I have total confidence in his ability to find the players who will make it work well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speculation had suggested former Real Madrid coach and ex-France midfielder Zinedine Zidane was PSG\u2019s first choice but president Nasser Al-Khelaifi denied that was the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe never thought of Zidane. Christophe Galtier was option number one for us. I hope this is the last question on this subject,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pochettino said on Instagram: \u201cI want to wish everyone at PSG the very best for the future \u2013 the owners, the board, the players, all the staff and the supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo Nasser \u2013 I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of the PSG family again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe enjoyed some amazing moments and big wins all together and, as a coaching staff, with every experience we always take learnings to advance our evolution for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
