The Premier League board has approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea by the Todd Boehly\/Clearlake Consortium, the league has announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Boehly had already agreed a \u00a34.25 billion (\u20ac4.95 billion) purchase of the Blues, with Roman Abramovich\u2019s ownership tenure poised to end after 19 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A statement from the Premier League on Tuesday evening read: \u201cThe Premier League Board has today approved the proposed takeover of Chelsea Football Club by the Todd Boehly\/Clearlake Consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe purchase remains subject to the Government issuing the required sale license and the satisfactory completion of the final stages of the transaction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UK prime minister Boris Johnson\u2019s spokesperson earlier confirmed the government had launched talks with \u201cinternational partners\u201d to help push the Chelsea sale across the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian-Israeli billionaire Abramovich has hoped for some time to have been able to satisfy government expectations on how to handle his \u00a31.5 billion loan to Chelsea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 55-year-old is thought to be confident those demands have been reached, which would finally pave the way for Downing Street to sign off on the sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premier League statement added: \u201cThe Board has applied the Premier League\u2019s Owners\u2019 and Directors\u2019 Test (OADT) to all prospective Directors, and undertaken the necessary due diligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe members of the Consortium purchasing the club are affiliates of the Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChelsea FC will now work with the relevant Governments to secure the necessary licenses to complete the takeover.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government sources are optimistic about a Chelsea deal being struck on Tuesday night but said \u201cit\u2019s going to go down to the wire\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe now believe everyone will be ready to issue the necessary licenses,\u201d a source said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe last remaining hurdle boils down to a number of final technical details that are being discussed with the club. It\u2019s going to go down to the wire.\u201d<\/p>\n
