What a week I had, as I was invited to see <strong>Paradise Square<\/strong> at the <strong>Ethel Barrymore Theater<\/strong> (243 West 47th Street). With visceral and nuanced staging and choreography that captures the pulsating energy when Black and Irish cultures meet and set to a contemporary score that reimagines early American song,\u00a0Paradise Square\u00a0depicts an overlooked true-life moment when hope and\u00a0possibility shone bright. I have to tell you that this was just brilliant and I have to hand it to <strong>Larry Kirwan<\/strong>, who resides in New York for many years and is from the County of Wexford. Ireland. Larry co-wrote the music with <strong>Jason Howland<\/strong>, I am going to tell on some words you might have not heard for a while: the show is a smash hit so go and see it; you will love it! I have to admit I\u2019m beginning to get very comfortable going into McCarthy\u2019s as the atmosphere is fabulous and the manager <strong>Owen Clancy<\/strong> could not be nicer and he even gave me a McCarthy\u2019s T-Shirt that fits me perfectly\u2026 wow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ship ahoy! Are you ready for one of the biggest Irish events of the year that will be happening on Wednesday, June 8th? Of course, I\u2019m talking about the <strong>Celtic Cruise<\/strong> evening dinner cruise in New York harbor that supports the\u00a0<strong>Emerald Isle Immigration Center<\/strong>, so don\u2019t miss out. Hosted by the <strong>Ancient Order of Hibernians (Div. 7, NY County)<\/strong>, as a benefit to support the work of the EIIC, this year\u2019s evening dinner cruise includes\u00a0live music,\u00a0full buffet dinner, a premium open bar, and gorgeous views of New York Harbor! Boarding begins at 6 pm and sailing is at 6:45 pm from\u00a0Chelsea Piers (12th Avenue at West 23rd Street) aboard <strong>The Spirit of New York<\/strong>. According to the New York Irish Center\u2019s executive director\u00a0<strong>George C. Heslin<\/strong>, \u201cIreland Today 2022 supports the next generations who will inherit our two great nations \u2013 the United States and the Island of Ireland.\u00a0\u00a0We want to give participants the opportunity to create global connections and encourage travel and cultural engagement to both countries. We also want to foster peer relationships between higher education institutions on both sides of the Atlantic. So, we are delighted that so many educators and outstanding students from prominent universities from both the US and Ireland will be collaborating together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Educators from eleven university programs on both sides of the Atlantic are taking part and serving as panelists, together with a range of current students. Each day will feature a two-hour panel talk moderated by distinguished thought leaders followed by a question-and-answer session. This event should be very exciting so give them a call if you are interested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a two-year break,\u00a0<strong>Origin Theatre Company<\/strong>\u00a0is reviving its popular new-play reading series, <strong>\u201cMondays in May,\u201d<\/strong> with staged readings of new shows read every Monday in a month packed with Mondays \u2013 five in all!\u00a0\u00a0Taking place in the second-floor banquet rooms of the Financial District\u2019s popular <strong>Beckett\u2019s Bar and Grill<\/strong> (81 Pearl Street), the series is curated by Origin\u2019s artistic director\u00a0<strong>Michael \u201cMick\u201d Mellamphy<\/strong>, now in his first full season at the helm of Origin.<br>Origin Theatre, which launches its 20th\u00a0season in the fall, introduces impactful plays from Europe to New York audiences, and is the producer of the highly acclaimed <strong>Origin 1st\u00a0Irish Theatre Festival<\/strong> (the 14th\u00a0edition of which took place in January). Reflections of Molly Bloom\u201d <\/strong>from the novel Ulysses by James Joyce. Adapted for the stage by <strong>Aed\u00edn Moloney<\/strong> and <strong>Colum McCann<\/strong>, with new additional music by the late <strong>Paddy Moloney<\/strong> and directed by <strong>John Keating<\/strong>, the show will be performed by Aed\u00edn Moloney on the <strong>W. Scott McLucas Studio Stage<\/strong>, with previews beginning on June 8th and opening night set for June 15th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Irish Rep will also be presenting <strong>\u201cThe Butcher Boy\u201d<\/strong> featuring music and lyrics by <strong>Asher Muldoon<\/strong> on the <strong>Francis J.
