Relatives of those who died and were injured on Bloody Sunday will mark the anniversary this weekend through a number of events (PA)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Irish politicians stood silently in the D\u00e1il on Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TDs heard that the events of Bloody Sunday were a \u201cmajor tragedy\u201d in the history of the island of Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thirteen civil rights protesters were shot dead by British soldiers on January 30th, 1972.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another man shot by paratroopers on the day died four months later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relatives of those who died and were injured on Bloody Sunday will mark the anniversary this weekend through a number of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ceann Comhairle of the D\u00e1il Sean O Fearghail said: \u201cToday I propose that we hold a minute\u2019s silence in remembrance of the 14 people who lost their lives as a result of Bloody Sunday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA major tragedy in the history of our island.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politicians in the D\u00e1il, sitting side-by-side as restrictions on numbers in the D\u00e1il chamber were lifted, stood silently to mark the events in Derry 50 years ago.<\/p>\n
