Sit back and read about this marvelous entertainer and don\u2019t miss a chance to see her perform at the Madison Theatre at Molley College on January 23rd at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelli Christine O\u2019Hara is an American actress and singer, most known for her work on the\u00a0Broadway\u00a0and\u00a0opera\u00a0stages. A seven-time\u00a0Tony Award\u00a0nominee, O\u2019Hara won the 2015\u00a0Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical\u00a0for her performance as\u00a0Anna Leonowens\u00a0in the\u00a0Lincoln Center Theater\u00a0revival of\u00a0The King and I. She also received Tony nominations for her performances in\u00a0The Light in the Piazza\u00a0(2005),\u00a0The Pajama Game\u00a0(2006),\u00a0South Pacific\u00a0(2008),\u00a0Nice Work If You Can Get It\u00a0(2012),\u00a0The Bridges of Madison County\u00a0(2014), and\u00a0Kiss Me, Kate\u00a0(2019). O\u2019Hara also received a 2019\u00a0Olivier Award\u00a0nomination for her performance as Anna Leonowens in the\u00a0West End\u00a0revival of\u00a0The King and I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Hara made her debut at\u00a0The Metropolitan Opera\u00a0in a 2014 production of\u00a0Franz Leh\u00e1r\u2019s\u00a0The Merry Widow. In 2018, she played the role of Despina in the Met Opera\u2019s production of\u00a0Mozart\u2019s\u00a0Cosi fan tutte. She has also played roles in television series, such as\u00a0Masters of Sex\u00a0and\u00a013 Reasons Why, receiving a\u00a0Primetime Emmy Award\u00a0nomination for her starring role in the 2017 web drama series\u00a0The Accidental Wolf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Hara was born in\u00a0Elk City, Oklahoma, and grew up in an Irish American family. She graduated from Deer Creek High School and also attended\u00a0Oklahoma City University, graduating with a bachelor\u2019s degree in music in vocal performance\/opera. O\u2019Hara studied voice with\u00a0Florence Birdwell, who also taught\u00a0Kristin Chenoweth\u00a0four years earlier. O\u2019Hara and Chenoweth are both alumnae of the\u00a0Gamma Phi Beta\u00a0sorority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of O\u2019Hara\u2019s earliest professional roles was in a US national tour of the musical\u00a0Jekyll &amp; Hyde. She next played the role of Young Hattie in the 2001 Broadway revival of\u00a0Follies, and then played the role of Young Phyllis. She next appeared in the 2002 Broadway production of\u00a0Sweet Smell of Success\u00a0as Susan. In 2003 she played Albertine in the Off-Broadway\u00a0Playwrights Horizons\u00a0production of the musical\u00a0My Life With Albertine, and, in 2004, Lucy Westenra in the Broadway production of\u00a0Dracula, the Musical. She starred as Clara in the 2005 Broadway production of\u00a0The Light in the Piazza\u00a0at\u00a0Lincoln Center\u2019s\u00a0Vivian Beaumont Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She had appeared in a workshop of the musical at the Theatre Lab at Sundance, and in tryouts in Seattle and Chicago, as the character of Franca.\u00a0She received a 2005\u00a0Tony Award\u00a0nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.\u00a0O\u2019Hara has been nominated for, or won, a\u00a0Tony Award\u00a0for every subsequent role she has played on Broadway.\u00a0In her next Broadway musical, she played Babe in the 2006 revival of\u00a0The Pajama Game, for which she was nominated for\u00a0Best Leading Actress in a Musical. For this performance,\u00a0New York Times\u00a0reviewer\u00a0Ben Brantley\u00a0wrote that O\u2019Hara \u201crockets past the promising ing\u00e9nue status she attained with\u00a0Light in the Piazza\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2007, O&#8217;Hara played the role of Dot\/Marie in the Los Angeles Reprise! concert staging of\u00a0Sunday in the Park with George and Eliza Doolittle in the New York Philharmonic\u2019s semi-staged production of\u00a0My Fair Lady\u00a0at\u00a0Avery Fisher Hall. She was the voice of producer Beth Totenbag on PBS\u2019s 2008 animated series\u00a0Click and Clack\u2019s As the Wrench Turns.\u00a0From 2008 to 2010, O\u2019Hara starred as Nellie Forbush in the Broadway revival of\u00a0South Pacific\u00a0at Lincoln Center\u2019s\u00a0Vivian Beaumont Theater, for which she was nominated for her third Tony Award. She took maternity leave in March 2009 and returned to the musical in October 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O\u2019Hara played the role of Ella Peterson in the 2010\u00a0New York City Center\u00a0Encores!\u00a0concert presentation of\u00a0Bells Are Ringing. She played the role of Ellen in the film\u00a0Sex and the City 2\u00a0(2010), and in 2011 she appeared in \u201cMercy\u201d, the first episode of the second season of the\u00a0CBS\u00a0show\u00a0Blue Bloods. Also in 2011, she played the role of Amalia in a benefit concert of\u00a0She Loves Me, presented by the\u00a0Roundabout Theater Company, in honor of the company\u2019s 20th anniversary.\u00a0Scott Ellis\u00a0directed, and the musical director was\u00a0Paul Gemignani. She had performed one of the best known songs from the show, \u201cWill He Like Me?\u201d, the previous evening at\u00a0Kennedy Center\u00a0in honor of\u00a0Barbara Cook.<br>She starred on Broadway as Billie Bendix in\u00a0Nice Work If You Can Get It\u00a0from April 2012 to March 2013 and received her fourth Tony Award nomination. In 2012, at the New Year\u2019s Eve concert, \u201cCelebrating Marvin Hamlisch\u201d, at Lincoln Center, she sang \u201cAt the Ballet\u201d, from\u00a0A Chorus Line, along with\u00a0Audra McDonald\u00a0and\u00a0Megan Hilty.\u00a0In 2013, she played the lead character of Julie in the staged concert of\u00a0Carousel\u00a0presented by the\u00a0New York Philharmonic\u00a0at Avery Fisher Hall.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From January to May 2014, she starred as Francesca Johnson in the Broadway musical\u00a0The Bridges of Madison County, for which she received her fifth Tony Award nomination. Elyse Sommer, the\u00a0CurtainUp.com\u00a0reviewer, noted O\u2019Hara\u2019s \u201csuperb vocal chops\u201d and her \u201cexquisite\u201d duets with co-star Steven Pasquale. She played Mrs. Darling in the 2014\u00a0NBC\u00a0telecast\u00a0Peter Pan Live!. She sang two concerts, titled\u00a0Kelli and Matthew: Home for the Holidays, in December 2014 at\u00a0Carnegie Hall\u00a0with the\u00a0New York Pops.\u00a0On December 31, 2014, O\u2019Hara made her operatic debut at\u00a0The Metropolitan Opera\u00a0as Valencienne in\u00a0Lehar\u2019s\u00a0The Merry Widow, alongside\u00a0Renee Fleming\u00a0in the title role. O\u2019Hara returned to Lincoln Center Theatre to star as\u00a0Anna Leonowens\u00a0in the Broadway revival of\u00a0The King and I\u00a0opposite\u00a0Ken Watanabe\u00a0as The King. The production began previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre in March 2015 and opened in April 2015. This role won O\u2019Hara her first Tony Award. Seth Rudetsky is the afternoon host on Sirius\/XM Satellite Radio\u2019s On Broadway as well as the host of Seth Speaks on Sirius\/XM Stars. As a pianist, Seth has played for more than a dozen Broadway shows including Ragtime, Les Miz and Phantom. He was the Artistic Producer\/Music Director for the first five annual Actors Fund Fall Concerts including Dreamgirls with Audra MacDonald (recorded on Nonesuch Records) and Hair with Jennifer Hudson (recorded on Ghostlight Records, Grammy Nomination). In 2007 he made his Broadway acting debut playing Sheldon (singing \u201cMagic to Do\u201d in a devastating unitard) in The Ritz directed by Joe Mantello for The Roundabout Theater. Off-Broadway he wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed Rhapsody in Seth (directed by Peter Flynn) at the Actors Playhouse and has also appeared on TV on Law And Order CI and had a recurring role on All My Children.
