Southampton have confirmed the club\u2019s takeover by Dragan Solak-backed investment firm Sport Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese businessman Jisheng Gao has been looking to sell the 80 per cent stake he purchased in Saints in 2017 for several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gao has now sold his shareholding in Southampton to sport and entertainment investment firm Sport Republic, with Katharina Liebherr retaining her 20 per cent stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serbian businessman Solak is the lead investor in the London-based firm, which was founded by Rasmus Ankersen \u2013 who recently stepped down as Brentford co-director of football \u2013 and Henrik Kraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solak said: \u201cMy partners and I have experience in long-term investments in the sports and entertainment industry and Sport Republic has been founded to combine this expertise and deliver something unique to the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSouthampton has so many of the qualities we have been looking for in a major sports organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt has a great management team, excellent talent development, talented teams playing attractive football and a dedicated fanbase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are delighted to be able to complete this acquisition as a first step towards execution of our investment strategy. Southampton will be a cornerstone of the organization we plan to build.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saints say Sport Republic\u2019s \u201cvision is to apply proprietary intelligence and data analytics to help sports businesses and sports technology companies reach their full potential\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ankersen, who until recently was executive chairman of FC Midtjylland on top of his role at Brentford, is chief executive of the firm, with fellow co-founder Kraft acting as chairman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will be an active and engaged owner, but we will not be starting any revolutions,\u201d Kraft said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were attracted to Southampton because it is already a well-run club that follows a clearly defined strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSouthampton\u2019s CEO Martin Semmens will continue to run the day-to-day operations of the club, and Sport Republic will be working closely with him and his team to help the club grow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief executive Semmens said Southampton \u201csearched the world for good people with the ambition and resources to lead us into the next era and I am happy to confirm we have found them\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOver the last two years, together with the shareholders of our club, we have searched for the right partner to take the club forward,\u201d he said. \u201cToday we have found the perfect solution for our club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSport Republic are experienced investors, but also experienced within the world of elite professional sports. That combination is very hard to find, and we are thrilled to have reached an agreement that secures our short and long-term future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
