The West Ham boss says he is not worried about losing the England international as he is \u201cunder a long length of contract\u201d at the club (PA Images)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

David Moyes claims Declan Rice is one of Europe\u2019s finest midfielders, but insists West Ham do not need a top-four finish to keep him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

England international Rice has enjoyed another fine season on the back of his success at Euro 2020, and is spearheading West Ham\u2019s bid for a place in the Champions League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Hammers boss Moyes insists he is not worried about losing his star man to one of Europe\u2019s elite clubs, despite comparing him with the continent\u2019s best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not many better,\u201d he said. \u201cI think if you break Declan down, you might say: \u2018Well OK, I want you to become even better in your passing\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo you can look at Frenkie De Jong or you can look at Jorginho. You could look at people who are really, really tidy football players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut then if you looked at the other side of the game, Declan\u2019s as good as anybody I know at recovering the ball, and speed round the pitch. I can\u2019t really think of many other midfield players like Declan in that mold really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRodri\u2019s slightly different in how he plays in a different fashion. But Declan\u2019s a wee bit of all round, and certainly can do different things and he\u2019s beginning to add goals to his game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s probably not many better, but I think there\u2019s aspects of Declan\u2019s game that he can improve. We want him to become better at so many things, but he\u2019s been a revelation for us this season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rice will make his 150th Premier League appearance for West Ham at Crystal Palace on New Year\u2019s Day, and Moyes sees no reason why he cannot reach 200 and beyond in claret and blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, Declan\u2019s under a long contract here, under a long length of contract. So from that point of view we\u2019ve not got a big panic on,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will keep Declan as long as we possibly can, we\u2019ve no intentions of selling him. If we ever had to, I\u2019ve said already many, many times what it would be \u2013 shoot to the moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOverall he\u2019s done a great job. Hopefully he keeps driving the team on and I hope we continue to add good players to play with and around Declan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy job is to keep building the club and build this level up and getting Declan players around him who are of a similar level and capable of playing at a really high level.\u201d<\/p>\n
